DIVISION ONE
TENBY 140 (14 pts.)
Fishguard 39 (0)
Tenby chalked up their biggest win in defence of their Pembrokeshire league title last week when they beat Fishguard by 101 shots.
On a miserable evening for bowls, all of the home side rinks got into the 30s, while the visitors only managed to get into double figures on two rinks.
Top rink was Joe Richards, Dai Spencer, John Roberts (captain for the night) and Andrew Muskett, who cruised to a 36-6 victory, while Neil Dickinson, John Baggott, Jonathan Webb and Pat Currie had the award for the biggest score on an end - they actually just missed out on a hotshot on the 10th end, and had to settle for a seven!
Well done to Steve Williams, who made his debut for the Tenby side, and congratulations to Luke and Craig Guymer who have been selected for Welsh Under 25 trials.
Further congratulations to Paul Diment, Andrew Muskett and John Roberts, who have been selected for the second Welsh trial on June 6.
Last Saturday's final game in the Carruthers Shield group stages was called off when Milford Haven failed to raise a side. With Milford's results being withdrawn from the table, Tenby topped the table with wins against Saundersfoot and Neyland and now go through to the open draw.
Tomorrow (Saturday), it's league action again for Tenby, who entertain Whitland's green army at Sutton Street, with a 2 pm start.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Fishguard skips only) were:
N. Dickinson, J. Baggott, J. Webb, P. Currie 32 J. Sinnott 10.
L. Rees, S. Williams, L. Guymer, C. Guymer 35 T. Jones 14.
G. Hewitt, C. White, M. Jackson, P. Day 37 M. Barringer 9.
J. Richards, D. Spencer, J. Roberts, A. Muskett 36 D. Hughes 6.
TENBY ARCHES 41 PENDINE 36
Last Wednesday, the ladies team (sponsored by The Fourcroft Hotel) travelled to Pendine.
The weather once again wasn't very nice, with thick sea fog and drizzle.
Julia King-Thomas's rink at tea-time was one shot up. After refreshments, they seemed to have the home side under their control with the score at the 15th end 15-7, but Pendine came back, 17-16, on the 19th end. The rink kept going and managed to score one shot on the last two ends.
Alison Redman's rink seemed to be doing well, winning most of the first seven ends, but went in for tea only 10-9 up. The 14th end saw Pendine take the lead 11-14, but the rink kept their cool and managed to score 11 shots on the last seven ends.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Pendine skips only):
L. Evans, G. Brutnell, V. Williams, J. K. Thomas 19; D. Penfold 16.
L. Delabertouche, A. Owens, H. Baggott, A. Redman 22; B. Pickersgill 20.
