The great outdoors

Many bowlers play the game year round, but most prefer the outdoor version in the natural surroundings, unless we get the dreaded monsoon summer (writes B. B.).

There are many bowlers who hibernate each winter and they relish the arrival of the new season.

The work ethic: Another major task, the replacement of the wooden cladding on the banks surrounding our green, has started in earnest and it should all be ready for opening day on Saturday, April  4, at 2 pm.

Club captain Tony Brown, accompanied by Archie Rafferty, Ashley Hooper, Lynn Delabertouche and self, bathed in brilliant early spring sunshine, all helping to annihilate, what turned out to be quite rotten 18-20-year-old cladding. Doesn't time pass quickly - it seems like only yesterday when I clad the banks last time!

Darts report

The Jeffreyston Inn A team provided the opposition last week. A fine win by Tony provided our only success in the singles until the timely appearance of JR after completing his bowls match. He proceeded to borrow some darts and win his singles and then the masters which gave the bowlers some hope. However, despite Tony completing a good evening to team up with Phil to win the second of the doubles, the bowlers finally succumbed 6-3.

Many thanks again to Chris and Jon for providing both the transport and the support.
