Coffee Morning success
The pre-Christmas fund-raising coffee morning, a first for many years, was very well supported.
New broom chairman John Baggott is determined that our popular club will enjoy another brilliant year, on and off the green.
The bar/lounge looks sparklingly clean after the huge purge this last week. All traces of the dreaded nicotine have been expunged.
President Bert Barnikel thanked everyone for attending and for the donation of raffle prizes. He also congratulated John on his rapid progress and excellent work assisted by Tony Brown (professional painter), Lynn Delabertouche (ace bar char), Mike Gouldingay and Archy Rafferty, all cheered on by the cross-section of bowling and social members supping elevenses.
A couple of members also paid their membership dues, which is very encouraging, especially for our treasurer, Ashley Hooper.
Grand Christmas draw
Once again our grand Christmas draw is gathering momentum, so it looks like another bumper crop of worthy prizes for all those participating. There are lots of slots awaiting your nom de plume, the more the merrier. See Simo at the bar. All monies are turned into prizes and all members are invited to attend the draw on Sunday, December 21, to help with the actual draw, randomly drawn electronically, of course. I dare say several lucky members will win umpteen prizes, which is the norm.
Darts Team
With some trepidation, the darts team travelled to the table-topping Cross A team. Good wins from JR, Phil and Mike Gouldingay put the bowlers a surprising 3-0 up. The Cross retaliated and levelled the game after the singles.
A fine perfromance from Mike and Phil edged the bowlers ahead, but once again the Cross hit back.
The deciding doubles went to the wire, but Ashley and Brian edged it with double four to give the bowlers a fantastic giant-killing win.
