Tenby Bowling Club whist is played twice weekly, Thursday at 7 pm and Saturday at 2 pm. New members and visitors are always welcome.
Bonus Ball
Winners were Gwyneth Preston and 'lucky' Kitty Bliss. New season
Saturday, April 5, sees president Bert Barnikel officially open our well rested and coiffured lawn bowling green, renowned as one of the finest in the UK.
Coffee Morning and Cake stall
The ladies section are doing their bit with a coffee morning, Saturday, April 12, 10 am until 12 noon. All members are encouraged to take advantage of this fund-raising event, if only to renew old friendships after the long winter break. Other beverages will also be on sale, courtesy of mine- host Simo. Later that afternoon, at 2 pm, the Tenby club male bowlers entertain Ammanford Park on our green for the, now, well established 'friendly' opening match of the season. A fine body of Carmarthenshire men, some are very fine bowlers and all are very good company.
Clocks
Don't forget to spring forward one hour this weekend.
Ladies' captain
Lynn Delabertouche is captain of the ladies bowling team for 2008, 'Tenby Five Arches'. Lynn is one of the very busy bees in our club. She landed here in Sutton Street at Easter 1989 with husband Keith and they ran a very successful guest house until Keith's untimely passing in 2001. Since then, Lynn has made legal history whilst converting her guest house into flats and skilfully involved herself in the running of many aspects of the famous Tenby Bowling Club. Currently, Lynn is assistant secretary, tournament secretary and a member of the competitions committee. Lynn broke all records for filling the Open Tournaments this year, for both the Gold and Silver, and the Chevron/Texaco, which were all filled and over-subscribed by mid-February. A lot of her success has to be her personal magnetism; visitors love her, as do we all. Founder members
Two of the founder members of the Tenby ladies bowling section, Gladys Gray and Gwenith James, are still going strong. Gladys reached her 99th birthday last Wednesday. She still has her great sense of humour, but memories come and go. Gladys still lives at home thanks to the carers that visit regularly, but mostly to the TLC lavished on her, for many years, by her friends Bron and Ron Hurlow. Gwenith James is also 99 years old. She was the catalyst that triggered off bowling for women in the Tenby Bowling Club way back in 1961. Both ladies must be looking forward to that 'telegram'. I wonder if their longevity is directly due to the gentle, but exciting art of bowling? Happy News
We are all thrilled that chairman Jonathan Webb and his wife Sarah have been blessed with the arrival of a handsome, bouncing baby boy named Jack after his paternal great-grandfather. Young Jack was 8lb 7oz at birth. His middle name is Patrick after both Sarah's dad Pat (Currie) and grandfather Patrick (Paddy) Currie.
Five arches (mens) meeting
Captain Mike Gouldingay has called a meeting to take place in the clubhouse at 3 pm on Saturday, April 5, after the opening of the green. All members wishing to play for Five Arches in the forthcoming season, are asked to please make an effort to attend.
