Who were the lucky ones?
The Christmas Raffle started off with all and sundry singing 'Happy Birthday' to 16-year-old Joe Richards, who then, by way of saying thanks, went on to scoop an armful of prizes! Simon and Marie Evans won enough biscuits to keep the ladies going for the season along with their 'cuppa'. At least Maria can bring them down to the wonderful staff on Ward One at Withybush! Lynne and Raf and young Molly Spencer were also winners, going home with prizes galore. It was a great afternoon, enjoyed by all, with secretary Dai Spencer as compere and chairman Jon Webb as scrutineer. That means he kept an eye on Dai! Hope you all enjoyed the festivities and saved the corks. Honest, I won't tell who brought in the most, but there was one rather large bag full of Champagne corks. One of our wealthier members, I guess. Two next year
The club has decided to enter two Meyrick Owen rinks next year, the second team to be called Tenby St. Mary's. This will enable us to give more competitive bowls to the junior lads and get them involved in more games than at present. Brewers Cup
This will take a new format next season, with the sponsors now being Brains brewers, who of course are one of the main sponsors of the Welsh rugby team. It will also be run as two leagues, with the winners of each division playing each other for the title. This will give some added impetus to a league that was going nowhere fast. Ladies
New captain for the coming season will be Lynne Deli, with Audrey Owens as her vice-captain. This is a turn around from the past year, when Audrey was the 'boss' and Lynne second in command. Sub-Committees
These were decided at the first meeting of the new committee. A new sub-committee was formed, with vice- chairman John Baggott as 'front man'. John's idea was a fund-raising committee, and now retired from a successful business, he will no doubt put all his energies into this new venture. Helping him will be Tony Brown, Pat Currie and Mike Crockford. The competitions committee which ran the competitions so successfully last year remains the same, with Mike Gouldingay, Welsh Ladies' president, Julia King Thomas, who members now automatically call 'Maam' - I even saw one member courtesy last Sunday, or was it husband Dai - and Lynne Deli. Andrew Muskett heads up the maintenance crew, with core members Gwyn Beynon - where would we be without the 'little general' - Ray Hine, John Baggott and members from the 'old crew', including the 'terrible twins', Graham Hill and Jimmy Taylor, two more stalwarts of the paint brush and carpentry skills. One of the items being considered is redecorating the upstairs room. Friendly teams will be under the watchful eye of the club captain, assisted by Audrey Owens and Doris Brown. Anyone else want to join a committee?
Bonus Ball
The lucky winners over the festive period were Mabel Whittaker, president Bert Barnikel (just reward for all the work he puts into the club) and the one and only 'Simo' (puller of ales, Cardiff City fan, brilliant 'one liners', and I do not know what else!). Committee Meeting
First in the New Year on Wednesday, January 8, at 7 pm. Hope you have all recovered, as our new chairman goes through the meeting like a 'bat out of hell'!
