Bonus Ball
Some 'old favourites' certainly came out trumps for the lottery winners last week. First it was Helen and Christine, who are no strangers to winning, then it was 'that man again', alias Eric Dorling, who stormed home for the prize on Saturday. Five Arches Lunch
A date has now been set for this gargantun feast, Wednesday, September 26. See captain Mike Gouldingay or Dai King Thomas for transport arrangements - just append your name to the list on the noticeboard attend and enjoy! Another List
Were you satisfied with the way the club was run over the past 12 months. If you feel you can contribute to the wellbeing of the club, then why not consider joining the committee, or take on one of the official posts. Nominations for officers and committee can now be proposed and seconded on the list to be found in the clubhouse. This will close on the last day in September. Meetings are held once a month on the second Tuesday of each month. YET Another List!
Yet another list. Where do we get them all from? This one is for the Christmas Draw, yes the Xmas 'give-away'. First sheet will be published Saturday, September 15, on Club Finals Day, which should ensure a good start. Last year there was the best array of prizes ever, thanks to Lyn Deli's judicious buying. The early sheets are usually the lucky ones. Well that's what I was told after I bought four full sheets, and if you believe that you'll believe that Wales will beat the Aussies by 50 points, - but I can assure you they will win. Honest! Club Finals
The club finals are to be held tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday. Let's hope we still get blessed with this lovely Indian summer we are enjoying. Mind you, when you are stuck indoors painting and decorating, it's no joke - just ask Gwyn Beynon! Terry Preston is in five finals, while 'ever young' Audrey Owens is in four. There are numerous members in two or more games, and it will all come to a great finale with the presentation of the trophies on Sunday. Sounds too good to miss! Thanks
Captain Mike Gouldingay of the Five Arches squad, on behalf of the team, would like to thank all the match sponsors and our main team sponsors, namely Stena Line, The Welsh Shop and Tees r Us, for their contribution over the past year. The team are extremely grateful for the support, which has enabled them to purchase shirts and jumpers. We sincerely hope that these generous firms and individuals will assist us again next season Bowlers 121 golfers 112
This report should have appeared a few weeks back, but thanks to another of our 'great' utilities cutting my phone off for two weeks - thus no internet - as well as house moving, decorating, feeding the cat and the goldfish and being unable to enjoy my Sunday with the Sunday lunchtime members, it never appeared!
After allowing captain Richard Ormond to enveigle a shot count of nine per rink for the golfers, it was a bit of a struggle for the 'poor old bowlers'. When they had people of the calibre of Viv John, Paul Haley, Phil Watkins and Neil Dickinson in their ranks, it spoke volumes that the bowlers managed to sneak a win.
But hey, it was the camaraderie and fun that was the winner on the evening. Both teams entered into the spirit of the occasion and it was a very happy clubhouse after the game.
