Pembroke Dock Mariners 65 (2 pts.) Tenby 83 (12)

The Layton and Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby team travelled to Pembroke Dock to play the Mariners last week. With the big game against Whitland on the horizon, a big win was a must for captain Dai Spencer and his side. Neil Dickinson, Ashley Hooper, Terry Preston and skip Peter Day were drawn on rink four. This contest ebbed and flowed either way until Peter's men picked up a seven on the 13th end. This gave the Tenby rink the buffer to close the match out by the same seven shots. With Pat Currie absent Simon Evans stepped up to skip who was ably assisted by Joe Richards, Bert Barnikel and Jon Webb. Dominant from the outset, with Bert in top form, Simon guided his rink to a seven-shot victory. Dai Spencer, Tony Brown, John Baggott and skip Paul Diment were drawn on rink three. With good contributions from all four throughout, they kept it tight early on and then second half, pulled away to clinch the match by 13 shots. Mike Gouldingay, Ray Holly, Terry Howells and skip Andrew Muskett were always up against it in their contest. Nine-one down early on, try as they might they could not get back into the game, eventually losing out by nine shots. Eighteen shots and 12 points was the final result which was sufficient, although not that convincing. Rink scores (Tenby first, Mariners skips only) were: Dai Spencer, Tony Brown, John Baggott, Paul Diment 28; D. Halward 15. M Gouldingay, Ray Holly, Terry Howells, Andrew Muskett 15; N. Firman 24. Joseph Richards, Bert Barnikel, Jon Webb, Simon Evans 20; G. Thomas 13. Neil Dickinson, Ashley Hooper, Terry Preston, Peter Day 20; G. Bann 13.

Juniors

Monday, August 6, sees our juniors play a team from Ystrad Mynach over 12 ends, starting 2 pm. Unfortunately, five of our junior girls are involved in a county competition in Haverfordwest, but the bulk of the team, led by junior captain Joe Richards, will be from the Tenby club. We are indebted for the wholehearted support we have received from Whitland, Saundersfoot, Pembroke Dock and Milford Haven, whose youngsters are helping us out. It will be worth a visit to see the stars of the future.

Rearranged

The annual match against the golf club for the Arthur Ormond Memorial Trophy has now been rearranged for Friday, August 17, due to the golfers having prior arrangements - secretly practicing for the next Ryder Cup or going out to Saundersfoot BC for match practice. This is always a fun-packed night, so enjoy!
