All members are reminded that when filling in the competition sheets, all monies due must be placed in the envelopes provided and then deposited in the letterbox in the secretary's door. Simple enough!
Bonus Ball
Last week's lucky winners were Reg Thake and Mary Owen. Who will be the recipients this week? Contained
One of our members visited the ladies room last Sunday, and upon re-emerging found to her horror that the club had been locked up. Keyed, bolted, locked, shuttered, no entry, no exit, you name it, the lot! But, being of a resourceful disposition, she used her mobile to phone Lynne Deli, who lives opposite. And she was duly extricated from her predicament. It was a case of "I'm a member get me out of here!" One thing, if she wanted a roll-up, she had the green to herself!
Sponsors
Once again, sincere thanks to our sponsors of the Five Arches squad. Stena line have helped them financially for the past 10 years, while recently, local businessman Jimmy Thomas, from the Welsh Shop, has also come on board with financial assistance. Another local businessman, Richard Lewis, proprietor of Tees R Us in New Hedges, has also assisted the Arches' cause over the past two years. Both Tenby, sponsored by Layton and Co, Solicitors of Haverfordwest, and the Five Arches teams are grateful for the input from these firms and businesses. Both sides advertise the sponsors on their shirts - anymore and we will look like the racing drivers with all the advertising! Sincere thanks to one and all.
Congratulations
Mrs. Gwyneth James celebrated her 99th birthday recently. In the 1960s she was one of the founder members responsible for setting up the ladies' section of the club. Over the past few years Gwyneth has been an active member of the whist drives, held in the club every Thursday. All her friends send their very best wishes. Juniors
Young Cameron White made his debut for the Five Arches in last week's friendly against Pembroke Dock, thus following in the footsteps of Adam Henson and Luke Rees, who represented the team last year. Considering it was an away fixture, Cameron did himself proud. Good luck to Liz Goldwait, Ysie White and Dana Rogers, who have entered a ladies' triples competition in Pendine next week. Great to see all the juniors entering the club competitions, and the Tenby team members who have joined the girls in the Marquiss Rose Bowl mixed pairs competition. These youngsters are our future. At a recently held meeting in the club, chaired by Lyn Perkins, national coaching co-ordinator for Wales, he commented how pleased he was to see so many youngsters being coached, not only in Tenby, but Pembroke Dock and beyond. He was very impressed with the way the club was integrating in the town's activities, and being used by so many local organisations. Coaching will now revert back to Wednesday evenings, and if it clashes with a Wednesday evening fixture, then we will hold it the following evening. When we have to do this, all will be informed the week before. Sounds complicated, but it will all work out in the wash!
five arches 108 FISHGUARD 61
On a glorious sunny afternoon, the Five Arches played their first friendly fixture of the 2007 season against Fishguard, which seems to be an annual event. Under their new captain Mike Gouldingay, this was an ideal fixture to give as many players as possible a game, including all five reserves. On rink two, John Moffat and his men got off to a very slow start and were 12 shots down at the interval. Mike Gouldingay and Harry Meades then came off to give Reg Thake and Jonathan Hubbard a game, and after a brilliant comeback, they finished up being defeated by just one shot. Rink three saw Mike Crockford also get off to a poor start, being seven shots down at tea. After Mike stepped down at the interval, on came young Luke Rees, who had a good second half and the rink came away with a one-shot victory. On rink four, Gwyn Beynon got off to a flying start, being seven shots up at tea. When Gwyn was replaced by Neil Hensman, the rink continued to pull away and eventually went on to pick up a 16- shot victory. Rink five saw the top rink of the day, initially skipped by Dai King Thomas, who never looked like being beaten. They were nine shots up at the interval and when the skip was replaced by young Adam Hensman, they then went on to win by a margin of 31 shots. Rink scores (Five Arches first, Fishguard skips only): R. Kennion, J. Hubbard, R. Thake, J. Moffat 24; K. Grace 25. S. Askew, L. Rees, J. Best, T. Brown 21; T. Evans 20. K. Lloyd, N. Hensman, R. Wilkins, R. Hurlow 26; T. Jones 10. J. Taylor, A. Hensman, A. Hooper, G. Hill 37; D. Hughes 6.

Last Sunday, Five Arches travelled to Pembroke Dock for another friendly before the league starts. The weather was very overcast, in comparision to the sunshine enjoyed over the last few weeks, but fortunately it remained dry. After 10 ends, the teams went into the pavilion for tea and a buffet which was very kindly put on by the ladies of the club. On rink two, Steve James, the Pembroke captain, decided that the two captains should play against each other, but said he didn't realise that he was playing against three ex St. Issell's players. Joining them was Ashley Hooper, who had a fantastic game, and the rink went on to win by a margin of 10 shots. Rink three saw Mike Crockford and his rink get off to a slow start, but they came back strongly in the second half. Young Cameron White had an outstanding game up front, and after picking up a count of five on the 16th end, they went on to win by two shots. On rink four there was no stopping Roy Powling's men. After being 15 shots up on the eighth end, they went on to win by a margin of 21, following good performances by all members of the rink. Rink five saw Gwyn Beynon get off to a shaky start, but he came back well in the second half - it must have been all those jam scones! The rink went on to win by a margin of 10 shots. Rink scores (Five Arches first, Pembroke Dock Pater skips only) were: R. Kennion, A. Hooper, M. Gouldingay, J. Moffat 23; S. James 13. S. Askew, C. White, T. Brown, M. Crockford 18; D. Gwyn 16. J. Taylor, T. Brutnell, G. Hill, R. Powling 29; M. Ronald 7. K. Lloyd, R. Hine, R. Hurlow, G. Beynon 26; S. Davies 16.
