Tenby captain Dai Spencer was certainly upbeat when I quizzed him on the prospects for his side during the coming season. "I am aiming for a top three finish at least," he enthused. "We have players rejoining who will certainly make us stronger," he added, referring to Paul Diment and John Baggott, and the possibility of Terry Howells also joining the fray. "I have an experienced vice-captain in Pat Currie, and fellow selector will be Terry Preston, another who has seen it all. "We certainly would like a good run in the Carruthers competition, the premier competition in Wales, and selection will be honest and fair," he continued. "Fines will be imposed again," he smiled, "as we must not forget the fun element in it all." Knowing Dai, he will get the respect of the team and will certainly lead by example.

Bonus Ball

Christine and Helen, mums of two of our up-and- coming juniors, in the form of Ysie White and Molly Spencer, were the winners last Wednesday, while another youngster in the shape of Evan Day took the honours on the Saturday draw. Hope he takes the game up, because if he is half as good as his dad, Peter, he will be some player. Don't think they pay the weekly amount somehow, left up to mum and dad I expect. Guess the Score

Nobody was remotely near the score for the Italian game, so the powers that be are rolling it over for the Wales v England game. Yes, fans, only one more week of purgatory. It would be nice if English referees would say something and then do it! And Japanese linesmen watch the game instead of musing which Italian red wine they will be having with their meal at the after-match dinner. Wales did not deserve to win, but the 'rub of the green' going our way a little might help. I said at the start that England would be the ones to watch. I hope I am wrong, but am not counting on it! Right one this time

Five Arches captain and his vice, Dai Robb and Ron Hurlow, are to make the long trek up to Abergwaun (Fishguard for the uninitiated) to present the Stena marketing manager with a team photo. When he came down last time, it had been left at home and the photo was taken with a 'dupe' picture. Hope they remember it this time, or we may have to do with a photo of the ferry this time! Stena Line have once again come up trumps with sponsorship for the Five Arches. Heard of the new design for the Tenby squad, who are being sponsored by Layton and Co., Solicitors, Haverfordwest - the firm our hard-working vice- chairman, Johnathan Webb, helps run. It is blue with light blue trims on the sleeves and sides. My god, they will set the fashion world alight!
