Whist results

Thursday, February 1: top score - Mary Renowden. Mary plucked up courage and joined 'whisters' at the Bowling Club for the first time, having last played 64 years ago. Missed Out

Yes, not taking their opportunities was the reason for defeat, was the consensus of opinion amongst the pundits as Wales lost out to the Irish on Sunday. Tenby's 'star' outside-half Thomas Lewis and dad, Kevin, were among the spectators for the televised game in the clubhouse. And there was plenty of grub on offer, too! There was a wedge of cheese the size of a house, which will leave a good basis for the grub for tomorrow's (Saturday's) game against scotland. And I am definitely not sitting next to Archie or Dai Robb for that! Just hope they do not come in their kilts. The 'guess the score' was won by Terry Preston, who remarkably was only two points out from the final score. Who will win it this week? The Wise men and Ladies Yes, it's our committee members who we are talking about, and a reminder to same, that there is a meeting on Tuesday at 7 pm. What problems will they have to ponder over, and decisions to make? Who knows.

Junior Report Ben Cloake and Cameron White, entering the Heatherton men's pairs competition, were drawn against John Roberts and his partner. John is a current Welsh international, but Ben exclaimed: "We can win this, anyone can win on the day!" Their enthusiasm did not wane when after five ends they were 14 shots down. And when they scored their first count, you would have thought they had won the game. Both John and his partner Mike treated the kids with respect and as equals, making it all worthwhile for not only the players, but the coaches as well. The final score was never in doubt, but it was a game to remember for Ben and Cameron, who I am sure will carry this ability when the season opens outdoors. Only two months to go now!

Bonus Ball

Wednesday saw one of the club's most loyal supporters come up trumps. Vera Burrows was the lucky receipient, while Saturday saw another deserving case when Mike was the winner! Same number as 'Simo', who triumphed in many places in the town.
