Tenby 90 (14 pts.) Pembroke Dock 53 (0)

Last Saturday, the Coastal Cottages sponsored Tenby team began what was to be a run of five league games in eight days. First up was the travelling team of Pembroke Dock who earlier in the season had beaten the Tenby boys on their own patch. On a glorious day, the two sides took to the green. Neil Dickinson, Bert Barnikel, Terry Preston and skip Peter Day were once again on rink one. This was a very close game throughout the 21 ends, but Peter, in fantastic form, managed to seal the victory with a narrow one-shot margin. Rink two consisted of Gerald Hewitt, Roy Kennion, Dave Robb and captain Andrew Muskett. Andrew and his men were never in trouble, and with good performances coming from the home rink, they eased to a well earned 12-shot victory. With the green running superbly (compliments to greenkeeper Chris Jenkins), rink three witnessed another Tenby victory. The victors were Doug Silcox, Jo Richards, John Moffat and skip Pat Currie by a convincing 11-shot margin. Rink four saw Dai Spencer, Peter Hooper, Ray Holly and skip Jon Webb, also on the top of their form. Jon and his men ground out an eye-catching performance to secure their match by 13 shots, giving the Tenby squad a clean sweep. Captain Andrew was delighted with the team's performance and to also gain maximum points was no mean feat. Rink scores (Pembroke Dock skips only) were: Gerald Hewitt, Roy Kennion, Dave Robb, Andrew Muskett 23; R. Hissey 11. Neil Dickinson, Bert Barnikel, Terry Preston, Peter Day 20; H. Hangar 19. Dai Spencer, Peter Hooper, Ray Holly, Jon Webb 26; L. Davies 13. Doug Silcox, Joseph Richards, John Moffat, Pat Currie 21; R. Jones 10.

Haverfordwest Castle 76 Tenby Five Arches 66 There was a collective sigh of relief, as at the end of this match the Arches players knew it was the last away game in this Brewers Cup competition. A fighting performance by Roy Powling and his men earned them a well-deserved draw. It was a new experience for 11-year-old Luke Rees, playing his first game on a green away from Tenby. All these matches are giving him, and the likes of Adam Hensman, much-needed experience, as in a few years time they will be the backbone of the league teams. Mike's rink went down by 12 shots. Dai King Thomas and his rink triumphed by six shots, with Johnathan Hubbard in great form. Mike Gouldingay made an appearance in Arches colours, but couldn't prevent Gwyn and his men going down by four shots. The Five Arches are sponsored by Stena Line. Rink scores (Five Arches first, Haverfordwest Castle skips only): S. Askew, L. Rees, T. Brown, M. Crockford 11; D. Pollock 23. T. Brutnell, M. Donoghue, R. Hurlow, R. Powling 19; L. Hoard 19. D. Rees, J. Hubbard, G. Hill, D. King Thomas 18; B. Hall 12. M. Gouldingay, K. Lloyd, R. Wilkins, G. Beynon 18; M. Codd 22. PEMBROKE Dock Pater 63 (2 pts) Tenby Five Arches 91 (12) This was a must win game for the Seasiders if they were to stay in contention with league leaders Pendine, and they certainly produced the goods on a sun-drenched afternoon. Dai King Thomas and his merry crew were always in the driving seat as they picked up two counts of five and a four to help them to a big 19-shot win. Johnathan Hubbard again played well, with Tony Shaw also contributing to the result. Roy Powling and his men came home by 12 shots to help to the overall win. There was last end drama for the 'little general', as with his last wood he came in for second shot to win by three. For captain Mike Crockford and his crew, it was a defeat by six shots, but they consoled themselves with the fact that they certainly did not enjoy the 'rub of the green'. Stuart Askew was in great form. Still it was a case of keeping things tight, as with Dai and Roy's rinks winning fairly comfortably and Gwyn, aided and abetted by Ron Hurlow, in a tight game, it was important to keep the loss down to as small a margin as possible. So it was a welcome 12 points to come away with for the Stena Line sponsored team. Rink scores (Five Arches first, Pembroke Dock Pater skips only) were as follows: S. Askew, B. Bailey, T. Brown, M. Crockford 16; M. Ronald 22. R. Hine, K. Lloyd, R. Hurlow, G. Beynon 15; S. James 12. T. Shaw, J. Hubbard, G. Hill, D. King Thomas 33; S. James 14. T. Brutnell, M. Donoghue, R. Wilkins, R. Powling 27; J. Brown 15.

Bonus Ball

Lucky Audrey Owens won the Saturday lottery for the second week in succession. How does she do it? And she is adamant that she won't let on about her winning success. Wednesday night was won by Kenny 'Learnie' Williams, but we did not see many free ales being distributed on Sunday! FIVE ARCHES TEAM
