Tenby 143 South Moldan 89 We welcomed these lovely tourists from the North Devon area, and what a great party they were. Vera Williams and her rink pulled out all the stops towards the end of the game to square their match 17-all. Skipping an all ladies rink - apart from himself that is - Gwyn Beynon was in his element, and what a result; they scored 17 shots without reply at one stage to win by 18. All the ladies admitted they played their hearts out for the 'little general'. No comment! The two captains were in opposition, with home captain Mike gaining the upper hand in the end by six shots. Doris Brown had a good game at lead, while Margaret Skyrme improves with every match in her new role as third. It was a big count of six that was the undoing of Dai Robb and his foursome, but they battled back to only go down by three shots. A massive 25 shots without reply left Bertie Barnikel and his all-male rink winners by 29 shots, with Lewis Hilling the calming influence at third for Bert. Stuart and Harry played their part as well. There is always laughter and merriment when John Moffat and Pauline Barnikel are paired together and it was the case again as they scored a six-shot win. After the game, the tourists treated the home side to a song, to which we tried to get Scot Dai Robb to reply with 'Myfanwy', but he gracefully declined as the game had taken its toll of his voice! Rink scores (Tenby first, South Moldan skips only): M. Draper, B. Winstone, P. Barnikel, J. Moffat 22; S. Bright 16. S. Askew, H. Meades, L. Hilling, B. Barnikel 37; B. Webber 8. V. Roberts, L. LADIES ANNIVERSARY DAY

Wednesday, July 5, saw the very important Ladies Anniversary take place. Ladies from all over the county and beyond - Haverfordwest, Pendine, Whitland, Saundersfoot, Pembroke Dock and Cardigan - took part. The weather was very kind to us - warm, but overcast. The captain of the club welcomed all the ladies and West Wales president, Mrs. Susan Evans from Whitland, who played for Tenby. The game was very friendly, but competitive, with some very strange noises and gestures coming from some rinks. One particular when a certain lady (mention no names) put up a wrong bias wood. The lady in question blamed a certain gentleman for standing at the bottom of her rink. After the game, the ladies all enjoyed a lovely buffet and drinks in the club lounge, where the results were declared. The winners were a Tenby rink comprising of Lynn Delabertouche, Lillian Howells, Irene Silcox and Pauline Barnikel. Well done ladies. The club would like to thank special guests, Mrs. Kitty Bliss, Mrs. Vera Burrows and Mrs. Winnie Lamb for attending. Unable to attend were Mrs. Peggy Best, Mrs. Gladys Gray and Mrs. Sissy James. A big thank you goes to Archie and Eric for helping out with the teas, Val and Joan and all the ladies who donated to the buffet and marvellous raffle. Thank you.

Lost Car

After the Juniors Day on Saturday, one member, who shall remain anonymous, asked for a lift to collect his car which he thought he had left in a friend's car space. It was now 'tipping it down', to put it mildly. Upon being deposited, in the downpour, his mate drove off. Our man of the moment then remembered he had left the car in the multi-storey car park. It was now raining in solid sheets, and he dutifully trudged to the said car park, no umbrella, coat or jacket, to collect his trusty vehicle, which he duly kicked and enquired why it was not parked were it should have been. Lives in Saundersfoot

FIVE ARCHES TEAM Five Arches team to play Pembroke Dock Pater tomorrow (Saturday) is: S. Askew, B. Bailey, T. Brown, M. Crockford; T. Brutnell, M. Donoghue, R. Wilkins, R. Powling; R. Hine, K. Lloyd, R. Hurlow, G. Beynon; T. Shaw, J. Hubbard, G. Hill, D. King Thomas. Changing Venues

The Bowling Club is now a favourite haunt of the postmen. Gareth Rees is a regular, following the fortunes of his three children every Wednesday at the Junior Academy. Eldest son Luke has already made two appearances in the Brewers Cup for the Five Arches. Neil Hensman's two children are now established members in the friendlies and son Adam has also appeared for the Five Arches in league and cup games. Martin Vickery not only supports his son at the coaching, but is undertaking lessons himself on the bowls scene. Another 'postie' over at the green watching his son Ben play was Nigel Cloake. They just might, just might, be transferring the Sorting Office from Warren Street to the bowling green! BONUS BALL WINNERS

Lucky winners last week were Carol and Audrey Owens.
