Bonus Ball
Lack of space was the reason for the non-inclusion of the previous week's winners. They were Kenny Williams, who picked up the Wednesday prize on only his second week in the competition, and Carol, who won the Saturday prize. Last week's winners were Tracey and Bet and Mac. Both the Saturday and Wednesday competitions are now full, so any new aspiring 'gamblers' will have to go on the waiting list. Tournament Report
The Texaco Tournament was full two weeks ago, and already has a reserve list of eight. Considering this does not take place until September, it just goes to show how popular this event is. The Gold Cup is also filling up nicely and now numbers 70. Social Fees
Members are reminded that these are now due. Subs are £5, same as last year, while playing members' subscriptions are trickling in slowly. One welcome new member is John Moffat, who has joined from Saundersfoot, and will be a welcome addition to the squads. Returning members include Ronnie Hurlow and Dai Rees, while new members include Kenny Williams and Brian Winstone. Another possible new addition is youngster Thomas Lewis, currently plying his trade at outside-half for Narberth. Seasoned skip Pat Currie - I had better not call him veteran yet, was positively drooling at the prospect of having Tom in his rink. Maintenance Report
Work has now started on power-washing and painting the facade of the club. The Arthur Ormond Memorial Board has now started to fill up nicely with photos of past local winners of the Gold Cup trophy tournament. Grateful thanks to Jim Taylor, Ron Hurlow and Ceris Hewlings, who have assisted Mike enormously in this task. Bertie Brace continues to beaver away painting the furniture, Dennis Watkins is busy cementing, Graham Hill and Gwyn Beynon are now happily painting, and Reg Thake, who has been absent the past week, will be back to make the tea. Mention must also be made of our chairman, who regularly goes round clearing and cleaning the green and surrounds and depositing at the tip. Dougie Silcox puts in an appearance every Monday to assist as well. Who left the big box of corks at the gate last week.? Who ever it was, they were gratefully received. We can't have enough of these; also as mentioned previously, any old cushions or padded material for the benches. Rugby
What was there to shout about? At least I said Scotland would be the surprise package, as they proved with that great win against France. Who won 'Guess the Score', that Scotsman again, Archie Rafferty, who readily admits that his knowledge of the game you could put on a postage stamp., But this is the second time he has come up trumps, and just to make his day, the Scots won on Sunday, which he duly celebrated in style. There is now a move to ban him from entering the Wales v Scotland competition, but you couldn't do that to such a likable person as Archie. Put your money on Wales, Archie, and we will definitely win then! The club will be open for the game on Sunday, which should again see a good crowd assemble.
