EXCELLENT YEAR

OF WHIST

Thanks to the dedication of Joan Dorling and Rose Handicott, Tenby Bowling Club whist players have had the most successful year of whist, ever.

The expansion into Saturday afternoon whist proved most beneficial, and for that we must thank Enid and Richard Jones.

Some people are just born lucky; the last game of 2003 saw Mabel Whitaker confidently gliding around the room, scoring heavily. Net result was 93 first half, 94 second half, 187 total, amazing.

Results for Saturday, December 27, were as follows:

Top score - Mabel Whitaker top lady - Gerry Meaney; second lady - Gladys Irvine; top gent - Robert Irvine; second gent - Bill Whitaker; first half winner - Joan Dorling; second half winner - Muriel Griffiths; longest sitter - Pauline Barnikel.

Results for Saturday, January 3, were as follows:

Top score - Bert Barnikel; first lady - Gladys Irvine; second lady - Joan Dorling; first gent - Bill Whitaker; second gent - Robert Irvine; first half winner - Gweneth James; second half winner - Gerry Meaney; longest sitter - Muriel Griffiths; raffle - Joan Dorling, Jill Groom and Pauline Barnikel.

Bowling Club whist drives are held in our function room in Sutton Street every Thursday evening, 7.30 pm sharp, and on Saturday afternoons at 2 pm sharp. New members are always welcome.

FUND-RAISING QUIZZES

From now until April, Tenby Bowling Club will be holding their usual batch of quizzes for several worthy causes.

We start the ball rolling on Friday, January 16, 7.30 for 8 pm. Please make every effort to attend these very entertaining evenings. We broke the ice on Monday, December 29, with our own internal quiz.

Quiz masters, Haley and Lee Richards put us through our paces and quite a few of us failed the course, but it was fun trying. Very sad if you haven't got a photographic memory and instant recall. The well-known 'Evergreen' quartet is like a human encyclopedia; they naturally commanded first place, with chairman Jonathan Webb's family a respectable second. Raffle winner was Ruth Webb.

Major Domo of the evening John King was in double festive mood as he celebrated his 83rd birthday.

FIRST COMMITTEE MEETING

Committee members are reminded that the first of this year's management meetings is on Tuesday, January 13, at 7 pm sharp.

NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY

A modest number of the bowling fraternity saw the old and very successful year out and 2004 in. Mollycoddled in the warmth of our lounge/bar, members were reluctant to go home, would you believe. 'Handyman' Bert Barnikel won first prize in the fancy-dress section, closely followed by those two escapees from Caldey Island, Betty and Sam McNeilly. Third prize went to that angelic duo, Audrey Owens and Irene Silcox.
