TENBY LADIES 34

SWANSEA AND BRISTOL 73

Swansea and Bristol Ladies visited Tenby green on Wednesday and we all had a pleasant game even though Tenby team were well beaten. Only Lon's rink managed a draw which was very well done.

But nevertheless we all had a very enjoyable afternoon and were very appreciative of our piece of Blue Glass which we were all given. Apparently, Bristol is famous for its blue glass. Something I didn't know.

WHITLAND 32

Tenby Ladies travelled to Whitland on Friday night and were very pleased to see sunshine. It was quite hard going, especially as Whitland enjoyed the long jacks, but Tenby battled on.

Mair's rink went ahead from the start and won by eight shots.

Joan found it harder going and couldn't get off number four, but after tea they fought back and only lost by five shots, giving Tenby an overall win and four points.

SAUNDERSFOOT 76 TENBY 68

The Jones and Jones sponsored Tenby team took on Saundersfoot in a top-of-the-table clash last Saturday.

Dave Morgan took on Berwyn on rink two and although Luke and Dave had very good games, they were unfortunate to lose by four shots.

On rink three, Pat's boys had a mid session crisis, but managed to overcome it to win by four shots.

The turning point on rink three was when Paul drew shot to make it 10-12 down, instead of 9-15, and kept the rink in the game for a three-shot victory.

On rink five, a steady start by Andrew's rink gave them a splendid lead at the tea break. Then came the transformation and Saundersfoot went from strength to strength. A disappointing loss for the rink in another close encounter.

Victory for Saundersfoot on their own green which was deserved on the day.

FIVE ARCHES LADIES 42

TENBY 36

The Five Arches ladies chalked up a six-shot win over Tenby ladies and bagged a maximum six points from the Monday afternoon's match.

Chris Morgan and her rink were 10 shots adrift of Joan Dorling and her quartet at 10 ends, but a cup of tea worked wonders for the Arches and a spirited fightback during the second half, when they picked up 12 shots without reply, saw them run out 21-19 winners.

Vera Williams's crew were also slow starters and by the 15th end they were 16-9 down, but the Arches scored 12 to Tenby's single over the remaining few ends to seal a four-shot victory.

P. Stubbs, G. Gray. V. James, C. Morgan 21; P. Jones, L. Evans, P. Barnikel, J. Dorling 19.

The team accumulated 14 points over the weekend and have now got a respectable mid-table position.

Again in this match all of the rinks performed well. Dave King Thomas's rink had a fine finish to beat the formidable Dave Roberts combination by seven shots, and the captain's rink gained their second win of the weekend, beating the tough Dave Robb four by seven in a keenly fought game.

The other two rinks, skipped by Mike Crockford and Keith Hubbard, lost narrowly by nine and four shots, respectively.

With several changes from the team that played at Milford, the captain was delighted to be able to call on Jon Hubbard and Jim Taylor at short notice; both played well.

COUNTY COMPETITION

The finals are played on the Tenby green commencing at 9 am tomorrow (Saturday) and Ben Owens, president, is officer I/C. Recent visitors from other Welsh counties have acknowledged that our green is one of the finest in Wales. Winners of each section will progress to the Welsh finals at Ebbw Vale this season, the first time this venue has been used for many years.

TENBY OPEN WEEK

The draw for this year's tournaments is imminent and will be posted in the clubhouse with playing times etc.

The usual popular entertainments for the week have been well organised and the competition team, headed by David King Thomas, is just praying for one week of summer.

Great emphasis has been placed on the ample supply of Tenby male bowlers volunteering for marking duties, particularly early mornings and evenings from Sunday to Friday.

There is a list in the pavilion to accommodate all who are interested. Mark one game each and the problem is solved. Visiting bowlers are always very supportive, but breakfast time and evening meals draw them away, hence the problem of latter years.

ST. CATHERINES 88
