MIXED FORTUNES FOR ARCHES LADIES
The Five Arches ladies have had mixed fortunes from their recent league matches.
On July 26, the team travelled to Neyland and came away with an eight-shot victory and four points under their belt.
The rink of Rene Silcox, Alison Redman, Helen Baggott and Vera Williams set up the win by beating Janet Sutton's combination 23-14.
On the other rink, Pat Stubbs, Audrey Owens, Val James and Chris Morgan were just pipped by one shot by Val Hubbard's rink.
Two days later, the Arches played at home to Pendine and chalked up another win.
Both Arches rinks bowled well, in the match sponsored by Audrey Owens, and the team picked up a maximum six points.
Pat Stubbs, Meryl Cooke, Rene Silcox and skip Chris Morgan won by five shots against Marion Stephens, while Anna Hubbard, Alison Redman, Gladys Gray and Vera Williams ran out 10-shot winners against Joan Simpson.
The Arches won overall by 46 shots to 31, but Pendine had to concede some of their score because one of the rinks had to play one short.
The Arches were in action again last Thursday playing away to Fishguard.
Burney Russell, Gladys Gray, Audrey Owens and Vera Williams went down by 14 shots against Gwen McFarlane, but Janine Bancroft, Pat Stubbs, Helen Baggott and Chris Morgan ensured the team did not come away empty handed as they picked up two points when they beat Anne Gray and company by seven.
This match was sponsored by the Tenby, Narberth and Whitland Observer.
Unfortunately, the Arches were defeated on both rinks when they played Pembroke Dock on Sunday.
The rink of Pat Stubbs, Alison Redman, Audrey Owens and skip Chris Morgan finished 13 shots adrift of Jean Harris, while Burney Russell, Anna Hubbard, Rene Silcox and Vera Williams had been level 15-all with Di Davies at 18 ends, but the Arches just failed to hold off a comeback by the Dockers and they went down 21-15.
