PEMBROKE DOCK

PARK 42

FIVE ARCHES LADIES 38

The Five Arches ladies were narrowly beaten by Pembroke Dock Park last Tuesday.

Vera Williams and her rink took control of their game early on and despite a strong finish by Betty James and her crew, the Arches managed to hold on to win by three shots.

Chris Morgan and her girls, meanwhile, started well, but came unstuck during the middle of the game and found themselves 24-10 adrift on the 17th end. The Arches put up a spirited comeback, picking up eight over the remaining four ends to Park's single, but it was not quite enough as Park ran out 25-18 winners.

Rink scores (Arches first, Park skips only):

A. Hubbard, A. Redman, A. Owens, V. Williams 20; B. James 17.

J. Bancroft, M. Cooke, V. James, C. Morgan 18; M. Lewis 25.

Unfortunately, the Arches had to concede their match with Pembroke Dock on Saturday when they were unable to field a full team.

WELL DONE PAUL

Congratulations to Paul Diment who has retained his place in the Welsh team for next month's home international series in Ireland.

Paul, who attended a squad practice game at Llandrindod Wells on Sunday, has been selected to play second in the rink skipped by Will Thomas, of Pontrhydyfen.

The series will be taking place in Belfast and all at the club wish Paul and the other members of the Welsh team and British Isles individual championship representatives well.

NEW DOCK 64

The Jones and Jones Tenby team entertained New Dock last Saturday in the first round of the knockout stages of the Carruthers Shield.

Against unknown opposition and on a slightly pushy green due to the previous evening's heavy rain, the team started off tentatively.

On rink one, Dai Spencer, Ben Owens, Mark Williams and skip Dave Morgan were involved in a tight affair for most of the match, but scored a count of five on the 18th end to eventually win 18-13.

Ian Badham, John Webb, Dave King Thomas and Simon Evans got off to a bad start on rink two. This rink has performed well this season, but suffered an off day. Despite briefly taking the lead after 10 ends, the boys were always chasing the game and ended up losing by a respectable 20-23.

Peter Day, Terry Preston and Pat Currie welcomed Gwyn Beynon into their rink to try and break their recent losing streak, and with Gwyn drawing virtually everything and Pat also playing well, they led throughout to win 19-13.

It was business as usual on rink four where Paul Mearns, Peter Hooper, John Baggot and Paul Diment maintained their good form. With Paul Mearns having a great game at lead, well supported by Peter Hooper, it was left to John and Paul to guide them to a six-shot win, 21-15.

In the next round we can look forward to an away tie with Llandrindod Wells for a place in the last 16.
