CHILDREN'S COACHING COURSE
I am sure our club can and do better for volunteer helpers to assist the coaches for one hour commencing Friday, June 8 and for four consecutive Fridays. We need at least 10 for comfort. With over 100 members surely we can muster more than the present two. It's for only one hour, come on help your club and most of all the children. Please join us, you will thoroughly enjoy it and gain satisfaction. List is on the club notice board
COACHING SESSIONS
To make it more enjoyable for the children Sam Mac hopes to purchase six bowls target mats, they retail at £23 each. To date he has managed, with grateful thanks, to obtain four from sponsors. If you would like to help in anyway please contact Sam Mac on Tenby 844843.
Goscar struggle
On Wednesday of last week at Whitland, Goscar struggled on a heavy green but still won on two rinks for four points.
Saturday at home we met a very strong team from Haverfordwest, St Thomas. It was a very close thing on three rinks and losing by the odd shot, but the fourth rink won by a good margin to win the match and gain eight points. A very good win lads.
On Monday we came down with a bump against a strong St Issells team in the Brewers Cup at Saundersfoot losing on all rinks and didn't even win the raffle.
TENBY 75
NEWCASTLE EMLYN 65
Four mixed rinks of ladies and gentlemen travelled last week for a match on Newcastle Emlyn's all weather outdoor green (put down April 2000) and two new Tenby players Helen and John Baggot formerly of the Newcastle Emlyn Club were with us. It was a lovely afternoon and an enlightening and enjoyable experience was had by everyone.
Tenby also had their oldest player and supporter with them, the inimitable Gladys Grey (90 plus). Eighteen players travelled and all took part in the match which Tenby won on two rinks and lost on two rinks but won overall 75 shots to 65 shots.
Result (Newcastle Emlyn skips only) were:
M. Morris, J. King (M. Draper), M. Marquiss, J. Baggot 20; G. Ironside 19.
I. Silcox, A. Ormond, A. Owens, B. Barnikel 13; J. Davies 17.
P. Barnikel, M. Cooke, T. Preston, B. Bailey 27; E. Williams 7.
H. Baggot, P. Best (P. Jones), V. James, D. King-Thomas 15; R. Wilson 22.
STENA FIVE ARCHES 57
(2 pts)
MILFORD HAVEN 92 (12pts)
You would not credit the difference in this abject performance to the committed one at Haverfordwest earlier in the week. In brilliant sunshine nothing seemed to go right for Roy Powling and his rink, or Sam McNeilly and his men, when both rinks could only muster 14 shots between them.
Unbelievable nobody could explain why, the boys were certainly trying, but it was just one of those days when the harder you try, the worse the situation becomes.
Ray Holly and his rink were in with a shout right up to the penultimate end. But a count of three by Ernie Sturley's men saw them home by four shots.
Although not playing particularly well as a rink, Mike's foursome managed to squeak home by a solitary shot to record the only success on a dismal day for the Stena Line sponsored Five Arches.
The visitors were a great bunch of bowlers including County President, Bill Jones in their team. The match sponsors were Begelly Arms.
Results (Stena Five Arches first, Milford skips only) were:
G. Crawford, J. Tyler, K. Hubbard, M. Crockford 18; D. Griffiths 17.
R. Hurlow, M. Donoghue, L. Richards, S. Mcneilly 8; M. Duke 25.
P. Watkins, D. Silcox, A. Grimbaldeston, R. Holly 20; E. Sturley 24.
W. Russell, T. Powling, G. Beynon, R. Powling 6; R. Thomas 26.

TENBY 34
PRIORY 43
Once again Tenby Ladies suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Priory. Mair Marquiss's rink was slow to start, but soon got into their stride to finish with a two point win.
Despite their efforts, Joan Dorlings rink suffered a 12 point defeat.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Priory skips only):
W. Lamb, P. Jones, M. Morris, M. Marquiss 20; M. Mans 17.
T. Brace, L. Evans, M. Skyrme, J. Dorling 14; J. Sedgley 26.
SAUNDERSFOOT 41
FIVE ARCHES LADIES 44
The Five Arches ladies added four more points to their tally on Thursday when they beat Saundersfoot by three shots.
Pat Stubbs, Audrey Owens, Irene Silcox and skip Chris Morgan were four shots adrift at 10 ends, but they turned the tables round in the second half to beat Benita White's rink 23-18.
Burney Russell, Alison Redman, Helen Baggott, who was playing her first match for the Arches and skip Vera Williams were level pegging with Marion Evans and her team 21-all on the 20th end, but with her last wood, Marion came in to make two-shots for her side to win 23-21.
