HAVERFORDWEST 79

TENBY 81

The Jones and Jones Tenby team travelled to Haverfordwest last Saturday for their first game in the Carruthers.

Winning at Haverfordwest is always an achievement, and on a tricky green and with a strong wind blowing, this task was made all the more difficult.

On rink one, the rink of Keith, Ben, Mathew and Dave Morgan were up against Roy Fairhurst, who was in great form, and they were soon down 11-1 after five ends. The boys struggled to get to grips with the rink all afternoon and even when holding counts Roy would come in and alter the head.

On rink two, Paul Diment's rink were involved in a tight match against John Docherty, but with Paul Mearns and Peter Hooper matching their opponents up front and John and Paul playing well behind them, they ran out 21-18 winners, scoring nine shots in the last four ends, which was to prove vital overall.

Next door, Bads, Webby, DKT and Simon were also involved in a tight game. The boys were always trailing by two or three shots and just couldn't quite pull back enough, just losing by a respectable 19-16.

But it was a different story on rink four where Pat skipped his rink to a huge win over P. D. S. Jenkins. With Doug and Terry laying the platform up front and the in-form duo of Pat and Sparky following, they at one stage won 11 successive ends, scoring 18 shots in the process, before eventually winning by 30 shots to six.

This was an excellent win for the side and with two home games remaining in the section, it gives us a great chance of progressing in the competition.

Rink scores were as follows:

Rink one - K. Deli, B. Owens, M. Johns, D. Morgan lost 14-36.

Rink two - P. Mearns, P. Hooper, J. Baggot, P. Diment won 21-18.

Rink three - I. Badham, J. Webb, D. K. Thomas, S. Evans lost 16-19.

Rink four - D. Silcox, T. Preston, M. Williams, P. Currie won 30-6.
