Once again, Whitland Bowling Club's annual sponsored junior open event proved to be an outstanding success.

The fine weather contributed to some excellent bowls being played by the 13 youngsters, both local and from further afield.

The format was a five-end two-wood round robin, followed by a seven-end semi-final and nine-end final.

The semi-finals were close encounters between Whitland's nine-year-old Katie Thomas and her bowls club mate Liam Price, and Whitland's Gareth Davies and Llanelli's Aaron O'Sullivan. Liam and Aaron made it through to the final.

The final was a excellent game, with both bowlers showing a high level of skill, with Liam emerging as the winner. He is the first Whitland club member to win the trophy in the nine years the competition has been held.

Thanks must go to Steve Reese, who organised the competition once again in his usual professional manner, while Kathy Jenner once again proved her ability as an excellent caterer, much appreciated by all.

Well done James

Whitland Bowling Club members would like to say congratulations to James Jenner on acheiving Student of the Year in catering and hospitality first year at Pembrokeshire College - must be the training he's had from his mum Kathy! Keep up the good work James - Whitland's answer to Jamie Oliver!
