Bridgend Ath. 24 pts. Whitland 7

Whitland slumped to their second defeat in a row, going down away to Bridgend Athletic in this rearranged Swalec League Division One West game.

And if truth be told, they never really looked like getting anything out of the match, for, despite winning plenty ball, a lack of control and vision let them down.

Outside-half and man-of-the-match for the Athletic, Mathew Morgan, hit the post with an early penalty chance, before putting his team ahead in the 20th minute after Whitland had been caught offside.

He increased their lead with a solo try and conversion after 32 minutes and after a poor clearance kick from the Borderers some three minutes later, winger Rhodri Davies got the touchdown, with Morgan again converting.

Whitland scored their only try on the stroke of half-time with a pushover from the pack, Ryan Michael getting the touchdown and fullback James Stephenson adding the two points to leave the interval score 17 points to seven to the home side.

In the second half, although playing with the advantage of the slope and a stiff breeze, the Borderers failed to score any more points and after 31 minutes the Bridgend side put the game out of reach when winger Rhodri Davies scored his second try and Mathew Morgan converted to leave the full-time score 24-7.

Man-of-the-match for the Borderers was Aled Jones.

Whitland fielded: James Stephenson, Dion Thomas (Carwyn Jones), Lee Glanville, Aled Jones (Gary Evans), Will Davies, Aled Davies, Huw Rees, Gareth Lloyd (Andrew Howells), Mark Jones (Shane Webster), Andrew Jones, Raff Williams, Carwyn Davies, Jack Mason, Ryan Michael, Randall Williams (Dylan Richards).
