Whitland 18 pts. Cwmllynfell 11 Whitland registered their first victory of the 2007/ 2008 season in National League Division One West on Saturday, turning round an 11-3 deficit with a good second half performance. Cwmllynfell opened the scoring when number eight Jim Morgan crossed for their only try of the game after just five minutes. They increased their lead 10 minutes later when outside-half Owen Higgins kicked a penalty after Whitland's second row Carwyn Davies had been yellow-carded by referee Ken Bowen for entering a ruck at the side. And things got worse for Whitland as they were reduced to 13 men after 19 minutes when prop Gareth Lloyd was adjudged, somewhat harshly, to have deliberately knocked the ball from the scrum- half's hands. But Whitland kept a clean sheet during this period, and got on the scoreboard themselves when outside-half Emyr Williams kicked a penalty. With eight minutes to half-time, Higgins increased Cwmllynfell's lead with his second penalty, while just before the break, the yellow card was shown to visiting second row Gareth Kinsey, but Williams failed with the penalty attemt to leave the score 11 -3. Whitland cut the lead to five points nine minutes into the second half with a well-taken penalty by Williams, and after 15 minutes they took the lead. After being awarded a penalty, Williams kicked deep into the opposition 22, where a good take at the lineout by Raff Williams saw the pack rumble on for replacement hooker Aled Harries to grab the touchdown. Fly-half Williams added the extra two points with a successful conversion. Ten minutes later, the Borderers increased their lead when, from an attacking scrum, skipper and number eight Randall Williams picked up and burst through the covering tackle to touch down for his side's second try of the afternoon. With the conversion attempt failing, this turned out to be the final score, giving Whitland victory by 18 points to 11. Whitland 2nd XV 17

The 2nd XV kept their unbeaten record in the Poly Pipe Civils League with a hard fought away victory. Whitland scored the only points of the first half when outside-half Shane Morgan intercepted and touched down for a try, with winger Ross Michael adding the conversion. In the second half, Waunarlwydd took the lead when Ashley Banfield scored a try, converted by Eifion Howells, who then followed it up with a drop goal. Whitland regained the lead as replacement scrum- half Gareth Davies touched down for his side's second try, with Ross Michael again adding the conversion, and when centre Steve Aston dropped a goal, it gave the Wanderers victory by 17 points to 10. Tomorrow (Saturday) they entertain Bonymaen. Narberth Youth nil Whitland Youth 9 pts. Whitland Youth made the short journey to Narberth for a top-of-the-table clash, with both sides having won their first three league matches. The two sides were well matched, but Whitland just tipped the scales and ran out victors by nine points to nil in a thoroughly entertaining game, played in a very good spirit. The first half was an extremely tight affair and saw no points scored as both sides tested each other out. Whitland eventually took the lead after five minutes of the second half, however, when outside-half Johnny Thomas dropped a goal after the forwards set up a chance. The young Borderers kept up the pressure and midway through the half, James Stephenson doubled the lead with a penalty, and with five minutes to go slotted another to put the game out of the reach of the home side, and keep Whitland's 100 per cent record in the league intact. This Sunday, the Youth travel to face Mumbles in the Welsh Youth Knock-Out Cup, with a 2 pm kick- off.
