No matches are easy in division one of the National League - as Whitland found to their cost on Saturday.
Having made the journey east to the heart of Mid Glamorgan, the Borderers could have been forgiven for thinking that they started the match against Tondu as slight favourites.
Tondu were languishing seven places below them, five places off the bottom, while Whitland, after a season of mixed fortunes, were in a comfortable mid-table position with eight wins from 16 matches.
But as they have discovered so often this year, those fortunes can fluctuate considerably, and so they did last weekend as the Borderers suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.
Tondu threw the form book out of the window as they rocked Whitland with a five-try barrage, to send them back home to West Wales scratching their heads in disbelief.
Things had started fairly tightly, however, as both teams took time to settle, with the only points early on coming from the boot.
Tondu outside-half Mark Jones got his side off the mark with a penalty, while opposite number Scott Penny replied for the Borderers.
Amazingly it was to be Whitland's only score of what was to turn into a miserable afternoon for the Green and Whites.
Jones banged over another penalty to put his side back in front and after that Tondu never looked back as they put Whitland to the sword.
Fullback Lee Byrne opened their try-scoring account and by the interval Tondu had stretched their advantage to 24 points thanks to further tries by prop fowards Kevin Fadd and Hywel Davies, with Jones adding the extras to both touchdowns.
Shellshocked Whitland were relieved to hear the half-time whistle, giving them a chance to rethink tactics in the hope of a rally in the second half.
But Tondu obviously had other ideas and piled on the agony as winger Darryl Thomas crossed immediately after the restart and went on to bag another touchdown later on.
Jones converted one of them and also landed a third penalty, while Gavin Simpson was also successful with a conversion to complete the scoring.
Whitland fielded: Wayne Lewis, Steve Griffiths, Lee Banfield, Lee Glanville, Andrew Richards, Scott Penney, Andrew Jenkins, Romeo Colella, Steve Gerrard, Dai Jones, Dai Ebsworth, Fakataha Molatika, Tristan Bowen, Rickie Morgan, Randall Williams. Replacements - Ricky Davies, Jason Evans, Derek Thomas, Tristan Mabbutt, Daniel Griffiths, Steve Butcher.
