Bonymaen 10 pts. Whitland 18
Whitland got back to winning ways in this Swalec League Division One West clash on Saturday, but only after a hard tussle with a very young Bonymaen side who played the game with pace and never gave up.
Full credit to them and to Whitland for sticking to their guns to gain a deserved victory and the three points.
Hooker Marc Jones was again the outstanding player on the field for Whitland and he was well supported up front by Tom Dinan, Jack Mason and skipper Randall Williams, with Emyr Williams, Lee Glanville, Carwyn Jones and Aled Jones shining behind. There must also be special mention for replacement flanker James (Cubby) Davies, who was making his first appearance for the firsts and showed great maturity for someone so young.
Boymaen took the lead with a Karl Newman penalty after 22 minutes, before Whitland scored their opening try some three minutes later. After good work by the pack, great hands by Marc Jones to keep the movement going and good vision by Lee Glaville in the centre, winger Aled Jones was put away to score.
Emyr Williams hit the upright with the conversion and the score remained 5-3 to the Borderers at the half-time break.
Ten minutes into the second half, Bonymaen regained the lead with a well-worked try by winger Rob Jones, which Newman converted.
Whitland hit back some seven minutes later. After a great break by centre Lee Glanville, who made 30 metres before being tackled, great quick ball by the back row and great hands again by Marc Jones put in prop Gareth Lloyd for the try, which Emyr Williams converted from the touch line.
Outside-half Williams subsequently added a 49-metre penalty and a neat drop goal to finally sink the home side and give the Borderers a well-deserved victory

Whitland lost this Carmarthen Tyre Services League match, with all the points coming from the boot of Darren Rees.
Whitland Youth 55 pts. Pembroke Dock Youth 3
Whitland again dominated this game from start to finish - which came early in the second half - being too strong in all aspects of the game.
Five tries were scored in the first half, two by fullback James Stephenson and one each for skipper and number eight Mikey Jones, second row Sam Hodgson and hooker Shane Webster, with Stephenson converting three of them.
The only reply for the Dock came via a penalty from prop Neil Brace, to leave the half-time score 31 points to three to the home side.
In the shortened second half, Whitland crossed for a further four tries by centre Lewis Thomas, prop Brinley Toms, scrum-half Aled Rees and James Stephenson, his third. Stephenson also added two more conversions to take his personal tally to 25 points for the match.
