Next month will see the release of a book entitled 'There is a light that never goes out', a collection of poems and short stories by two Tenby authors, Nicky Lloyd and Johnny Pendell.

Lifelong friends, Nicky and Johnny had, for many years, spoken about their love of writing and about their dream of one day being published authors.

In January 2006, when Johnny was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he returned home to be cared for during his final days by his family and Macmillan Nurses.

During this time, Nicky visited Johnny regularly and during the umpteenth chat about having their work published Johnny hinted to Nicky that it may now never happen.

Four days before Johnny passed away, Nicky made him a promise. He promised him that whatever happened he would publish the book of their respective work that they always hoped would reach the book shops.

Five years on, Nicky has finally produced the finished article as a fitting tribute to Johnny who he describes as a 'wonderfully gifted man and a beautiful soul'.

Sadly the event that focused Nicky on finishing the project and honouring 'The Promise' was the passing of his father John Lloyd in April 2010.

As Nicky said: "I wanted Dad to see the book and I regret that he never did, but that regret spurred me on to bring the process to a fitting conclusion."

The book, officially released on August 6, with 10 per cent of all proceeds being donated to Cancer Research UK, will be available in local bookstores newsagents and arts and craft shops from that date.

There is also an invitation only 'Gala Book Launch and Charity Fundraiser' event on the same day and representatives from Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support will be present.
