Colby Woodland Gardens at Amroth are hosting a National Trust Book Fair this weekend, November 16, 17 and 18. There will be a huge selection of donated books to browse through and every purchase will support the conservation work of the National Trust right here in Pembrokeshire.

With autumn evenings drawing in, what better way to spend a lazy time than curled up by the fire, with a hot mug of coffee and a good book? Whether you are nine of 90, books can hold the key to another world, which can live on in your thoughts long after the final page has been turned.

Conservation charity, the National Trust, supported by Taylors of Harrogate, Family Tea and Coffee Merchants, will be holding the first of their annual book fairs as well as the events normally associated with a 'Winter Weekend' at Colby. There will be the opportunity to meet Mrs. Joan Hunter who will be demonstrating her skills in Teddy making, Sue Hoyland, of The Pembrokeshire Spinners and Weavers, will be spinning and felt-making so that anyone can try their hand at these ancient skills, as well as children's craft activities, giving the grown-ups time to choose their books in peace.

The National Trust gift shop, packed with unusual and exclusive gift ideas, will be open for you to sample the delicious jams and chutneys or to try some hot Welsh punch.

After a brisk walk in the woodlands to enjoy the wonderful autumn colour, you can warm up with home-made soup in the Bothy tearooms or enjoy a steaming mug of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.

There will be something for all the family, with a specially arranged visit from Father Christmas on Sunday afternoon from 12 - 4 pm, when he will have a chocolate gift for each child, and Taylors will also be handing out sachets of their 'Lazy Sunday' blend of freshly ground coffee, to enjoy at home, while engrossed in your new finds.

"The fairs are a great way to raise money for the charity by recycling books which may otherwise have been thrown away or destroyed," said Colby manager Gill Farrow. "They also offer the opportunity to obtain interesting books at reasonable prices. We have been delighted by the response to our appeal for books. At first I worried I wouldn't have enough, but that is certainly not the case now."
