WHITLAND 43 pts.

BUILTH WELLS 13

Whitland beat Builth Wells with something to spare, winning by 43 points to 13 and gaining a bonus point, which takes them to the top of division one west of the Swalec League.

Whitland scored their first try after only five minutes. Following a lineout, prop Craig Kelly drove on and hooker Trystan Griffiths took the ball up the centre, where great recycling enabled Aled Davies to feed centre Aled Jones. He went close, but when he was held up, scrum-half Huw Rees was on hand to get the touch down.

Outside-half Aled Davies failed with the conversion, but it was not long before winger Dion Thomas was next on the scoreboard. When Whitland turned ball over at a scrum, Rees worked the blindside, where fullback James Stephenson put Thomas away to score. Again the try went unconverted, however.

Whitland then lost prop Craig Kelly with an ankle injury which looked bad.

Builth took advantage to open their own account with an unconverted try by centre John Thurston.

However, the Borderers soon responded, increasing their lead after 30 minutes when Aled Davies made a nice break and had support from centre Aled Jones, who gave the ball back on the inside for number eight Ryan Michael to score under the posts, Davies adding the two extras from the conversion.

Thurston replied with a penalty for the 'Bulls', but just before the break, Dion Thomas got his second touchdown. It came when quick ball from a scrum saw Ryan Michael picking up and feeding Huw Rees, who gave Aled Davies time to put James Stephenson in the gap and Thomas finished off.

Again Davies failed with the conversion, but Whitland held a useful 22-8 advantage at the half-time interval.

And within five minutes of the restart that had been increased even further.

From a Builth drop-out taken by Raff Williams, flanker Celt Thomas was in support to put skipper Lee Glanville over for the try and Davies converted.

After 13 minutes, second row Carwyn Davies got yellow-carded and during this time Builth scored their second try, again by centre John Thurston, which he failed to convert.

Whitland scored their sixth try after 31 minutes when outside-half Aled Davies made a break and fullback James Stephenson broke the last tackle to get the touchdown, with Aled Davies adding the conversion points.

The Borderers finished off in style when winger Will Davies crossed the line. After a great lineout, the backs did the business to put Davies away and Aled Davies converted to leave the full-time score 43 points to 13 .
