Bonfire Night was a huge success at the event organised by St. Florence Youth Club at the playing field on Monday evening.
The rain kept off and the wind eased to attract spectators from not only the village, but a wide area, and the huge bonfire burned merrily having been built by Mr. Michael (Stanley) Evans over the preceding weeks.
There was a competition for the best guy which attracted quite a few entries which was judged by county councillor Mrs. Pat Griffiths. The £50 draw was won by Simon Macro and many other prizes by locals and those from far away.
Stalls, games, hot-dogs, soup and toffee apples delighted the large crowds of those young and old, and then as the evening came to a close there was a wonderful display of fireworks.
The community council and volunteers, including many parents, would like to thank all who helped to make this event so successful, especially all who turned up to enjoy a real village community event.
It is hoped to stage a disco for all youngsters as Christmas arrives, and already thoughts are turning to more seasonal events.
The Youth Club meets at the playing field and Village Hall every Thursday from 6-8 pm during the winter months, with a wide range of activities, including table tennis, arts and crafts, computers and pool. All are very welcome. So if you are eight-plus, come along and have an enjoyable evening. Younger children are welcome for a taster when accompanied by parents.
Helpers are always welcome to come and join in this worthwhile organisation and further add to the enthusiasm already generated for our young people.
Thanks go to the sponsors for this event: Heatherton; Newey and Eyre Ltd.; Skelfayre; and Carswell Farm, Penally.
The next event will be the Christmas whist on December 5, at the Village Hall. Watch this space for further details.
