Be extra vigilant of doorstep traders - that's the advice from Pembrokeshire County Council's public protection trading standards team.
They say there has been an increase in reports of bogus doorstep traders in the county.
Complaints have been received of callers carrying out shoddy work, charging high prices and falsely claiming to be working for the council.
Examples of the services that may be offered include gardening services, wall/loft insulation, guttering and fascia replacement and roof repairs.
Trading standards offer the following advice to anyone approached by an uninvited doorstep caller offering goods or services: Do not let them in; ask them for written details of their address and full details of the work they propose to carry out so you can make further enquiries; don't make impulsive decisions; get quotes from other local traders for the same work or goods.
Be suspicious if they: pressurise you to make a decision; claim the offer is only available that day; refuse to give you their details in writing; claim they are unable to call back; insist on cash only payment.
If you receive a suspicious call and need advice, report the matter to Consumer Direct Wales on 08454 04 05 06/Welsh line 08454 04 05 05.
