Recently published crime statistics reveal that burglary figures in Pembrokeshire in the last year were relatively static compared to 2005/2006. Of particular note was the fact that only one distraction burglary - where someone gains entry by some sort of trickery, was recorded. To ensure that this position is maintained, and where possible improved upon, the Bobby Van scheme, supported by the Big Lottery Fund and other organisations has been extended. Any person over 60 years of age who has been a victim of a domestic burglary, or considers themselves vulnerable or disadvantaged by reason of disability can ask to be considered for the scheme. Younger repeat burglary victims and victims of domestic violence can also take advantage of the scheme. A trained craftsman will visit you and make an assessment of the physical security of your house, and where necessary install better door and window locks, door viewers and chains. Just ring 01267 226468 and speak to Anna Lewis, the scheme co-ordinator for the Dyfed Powys Crime Prevention Trust, who will make the necessary arrangements.
