Two local policemen will be swapping their uniforms for running kits next month when they take part in the Blackpool Marathon.

PCs 528 Dave Allen and 1033 Paul Boorman, who are both stationed in Tenby, will be putting their best feet forward in the gruelling 26.2 mile race on June 22 to raise money for the Friends of Tenby Cottage Hospital and Noah's Ark Appeal to build a new Children's Hospital of Wales.

"This is the first marathon either of us have ever taken part in," smiled 41-year-old Dave.

"We have chosen Blackpool because it is the flattest course in Britain, but I think the organisers must be hoping for great things from us as my race number is three and Paul's is six."

Both Dave and Paul, who is 27 are in training for the challenge and anyone who would like to sponsor them can do so by either calling in at Tenby police station, Dales Music in the town's High Street, New Hedges Post Office or Bush Hill Service Station, Pembroke, where sponsor forms are available.
