The bluebells continued to bloom in Lawrenny Woods for Bluebell Weekend, an event run by the congregation of St. Caradoc’s Church in Lawrenny.

The event included an afternoon of activities to support Croeso Arberth, whose role is to prepare for, welcome and support three refugee families from the Middle East.

The afternoon began with a walk through Lawrenny Woods led by members of the Pembroke Millponds Action Group. The main aim was, of course, to admire the bluebells, but the knowledge of the walk leaders shone through to admire other spring flowers, birds and insects as they went through the woodland.

While the adults walked, children took part in a range of wildlife activities on the village green. Making seed bombs was the most popular, as were painting, studying the wildlife in the trees around the site and hunting for bugs.

In the church, Jill Simpson from Croeso Arberth gave a very moving and well-received talk about the project.

The afternoon ended with cream teas served in the Village Hall and £400 was raised for the Croeso Arberth project.

The weekend ended on the Sunday morning with a family service in the church.

The next event for St. Caradoc’s Church will be the ever-popular Strawberry Tea to be held at Knowles Farm, Lawrenny, from 3 pm, on Saturday, June 17, with profits to the church. Entrance is £6, with children under 12 half price. This must be the best value afternoon tea in Pembrokeshire.
