This week’s Blast features Tenby Round Table undertaking a fundraising event in the early 90s.
“C’mon My Men Follow Me” - was the cry uttered by Chairman Tony Upham back in the summer of 1991 when he led four Round Tablers in a parachute jump for charity at Swansea Airfield.
The charity to benefit from the jump was Barnardo’s, and following the chairman with fear and trepidation were (left to right) - Glynne Morgan, Simon Ronowitz (Tony Upham himself), Neil and Clive Webb.
“The jump was cancelled on the Saturday as the wind was too strong, so members went back to Swansea the following day as the winds were kinder and the jump was allowed,” said Ruth Webb who contributed this photo.
“Tony was the first to jump and the famous Saturday rallying-cry was a little muted as he was pushed out of the plane on the Sunday!
“To add insult to injury, he landed a little ignominiously in a heap, twisting his ankle and had to be ferried back to the starting point on the runway! Poor Tony - but a wonderful fundraising event,” she added.
