MORE often than not, a photograph from our 'Blast from the Past' section will generate quite a lot of interest in the local area, but now it seems there is no limit to where one of our historic pictures will reach! When Brenda Rees from Ammanford and her husband Harry recently made a trip to New Zealand to visit Brenda's aunt, Lily Evans, who emigrated 10 years ago, imagine Lily's delight when they brought with them a recent copy of the Observer featuring a picture of Redberth School. The photograph was taken back in 1927 and among the pupils was none other than Lily and her sister Irene. "My sister Glenys, who lives in Pembroke, spotted the picture of Redberth in the Observer, and purely by coincidence we were just about to embark on our trip to New Zealand to see Auntie Lily, so we thought it would be a nice surprise for her to see it for herself," explained Brenda. Lily emigrated to New Zealand a decade ago to be closer to her only son Robert, who moved there 37 years ago, and according to Brenda, she has settled very well and was thrilled that everyone had made the journey over to see her. "As you can imagine, Lily was delighted to see everyone, and just as delighted to see the photo featured in the Observer," added Brenda.
