Wednesday, March 8 is a very special day for the members of Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild as they celebrate their 10th birthday with a prosecco afternoon tea at Morgan’s in Tenby
Ten years ago, the wonderful Doreen Hammersley persuaded a few newly retired Guiders that they really wanted to form a Guild with the aim of supporting local Guide and Brownie units while having fun, and enjoying the very special friendships that are formed in the Guiding movement.
It began with just seven members but now has grown to over 20 led by Margaret Peake who embodies the spirit of Guiding and is well known to generations of past Tenby Brownies.
Members have certainly enjoyed the past 10 years with a varied and stimulating programme.
There have been trips to the theatre, afternoon tea on the Gwili Railway, visits to the Riding for the Disabled stables, and to Ash Farm to see the alpacas to name but a few.
Last summer members celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a sparkling celebration overlooking the North Beach after planting a tree at Allen’s View.
But the Guild likes to support others too, and members have done sponsored walks for Dementia, and for the RNLI, and three hardy souls even swam in a cold February sea for Young Lives vs Cancer.
The Wednesday walks have been another highlight, particularly throughout lockdown when just getting together on wild. windy beaches warded off any feelings of isolation.
Of course there have been coffee mornings to raise funds for the Scout and Guide Hall, and visits to local units, helping to keep the link with local Guiding.
Everyone was particularly delighted to hear that one of the younger members, Rhian Morgan who leads the 4th Tenby Guides, is to be the new District Commissioner for Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in the Lower Landsker District.
Not only is it the 10th birthday of Lower Landsker Guild but the 80th birthday of Trefoil UK and there are lots of exciting challenges and events planned for the yeat.
To begin, some members will be joining Trefoil members from all over Wales at the Trefoil Cymru Annual meeting in Aberavon on March 25.
It will be back to reality on Thursday, March 9 when members prepare for the exhibition of 100 years of Brownies and Guides in Tenby at the Scout and Guide Hall, Warren Street, which will be opened by the Mayor, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall on Friday 10 at 11 am and will run until Sunday, March 12.
All are welcome, to look back at happy times or even to find out more about Trefoil.
