IN recent months, Andrew Rees, the award-winning butcher from Narberth, has frequently been seen speeding his way around the lanes of South Pembrokeshire on his racing bike.
No he's not thinking of bringing back a delivery bike - he's been training hard ahead of tackling the 200km ride in the 2009 Tour of Pembrokeshire!
The idea of taking part in the event and raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance came to Andrew while he was providing the barbecue at the 2008 event.
In a year that saw him win a British Rural Retailer of the Year Award and be presented with a National Treasure Award by Alan Titchmarsh, he kept planning his 2009 ride. His plans took a further step forward when his wife bought him a racing bike as a Christmas present.
The Tour of Pembrokeshire raised an incredible £12,000 for the air ambulance in 2008 and Andrew is determined to add to 2009's total through sponsorship.
Any friends, customers and supporters wanting to sponsor him on his 200km ride can find sponsorship forms in his Narberth shop.
Mike Ashbridge, of Wales Air Ambulance, said: "Good luck to Andrew for his ride and I hope everyone supports him through sponsorship.
"It's fund raising like this that keeps us flying! If anyone else wants to help raise money for the air ambulance charity, please contact me on 07817961207."
