With two weeks to go, organisers are predicting that this year's Tidy Wales Week will be the biggest ever. Over half of the free clean up kits have been snapped up by communities who are busy planning their June projects. Since the date and details of the volunteer clean up was announced, over 200 schools, 80 community groups, 15 Communities First Partnerships, four police stations and eight public sector agencies have already ordered clean-up kits. The inaugural Tidy Wales Week was launched three years ago resulting in many of the regions black spots being restored to their former glory, but the organisers are hoping that the latest assault will result in many more litter-free communities. The 2008 Tidy Wales Week will take place from June 23-29 and once again, Keep Wales Tidy have produced free clean-up kits to assist people to take part. The kits, sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government, include guidance notes on how to organise a fun, safe clean-up event, publicity materials and tabards to keep participants clean and dry. Local authorities have also pledged support to the campaign by providing litter and recycling bags, gloves and litter collection to all those taking part. The Environment, Sustainability and Housing Minister, Jane Davidson AM, who will be launching the week on Monday, June 23, in Swansea said that the annual Tidy Wales Week had proved to be a very successful campaign providing a strong clear message and focus. Over 450 events have already been planned by groups across Wales, amongst them are Begelly Community Association who will be joining forces with local scouts to clean Kilgetty. Residents are urged to either organise their own event or join in an existing one. For a list of organised events please visit the Tidy Wales Week page on the Keep Wales Tidy website.
