Did we keep the best 'til last? Wonderful, wonderful Inco Mouth. Surely the golf courses of Copenhagen could not match this lush green and beautifully manicured course. Yes, and we were privileged to play it.

The weather was perfect for golf and saw the biggest turnout of the season for what was our last winter league fixture - and what a successful day it was.

Apart from the very tricky and testing course, the competitiveness and camaraderie among the players and the welcome extended to us by our hosts, made the whole day a complete pleasure and success.

Now let's get down to golf. Lift off was scheduled for 11 am and first off were Richie 'Baz' Gwyther, Roy 'Grumpy' Good and Rob 'Willie' Wilcox. Rob made a perfect drive straight down the fairway, only to find, when he got there, that a lady golfer had played his ball by mistake. So back he came to tee-off again.

Next up to the tee were John 'Moggy' Morris, Lee 'Larnie' Lewis and Billy 'Brandjo' Cole, a formidable trio. How was the lager, Bill?

The third trio were Ian 'The Gas' Thomas, Jim 'Piper' Hinchliffe and Barry 'Chippy' Wood. They had high hopes, but alas, hopes die hard.

Fourth off were Dorian 'Noddy' Thomas, Wyn 'Gasoline' Hopkins and Terry 'Hippo' Harvey. Noddy did his best to hit me with his ball, his excuse being that he didn't like the look of my legs. I was wearing shorts, jealousy me thinks!

The big in stature three to go off next were Steve 'Squirty' Scanlon, Mark 'Woody' Wood and newcomer Don 'Newton' Abbott. Watch out for the long drives chaps. Many quite wayward.

Following hot on their heels were Brian 'Chopper' Morgan, Steve 'Donut' Harries and Rick 'Putterless' Lewis. These 'pro' golfers were hot favourites for the silverware. Tough.

Following the 'pros' were Pat 'Postie' Casement, Des 'Bamboo' Stone and Anthony 'Bimbo' Allen. Des was sure he could 'school' his team to success.

Eighth off were Trevor 'Santa' Lewis, Kenny 'Drains' Badham and Paul 'Jampot' James. Just back from his travels, Santa was convinced his team would journey well.

Next off were Colwyn 'Blocker,' Harts, Ron 'Fingers' Murphy and Harry 'Dentures' Jaakola, who was hoping they could extract the best out of the course.

Out 10th were Gary 'Shiner' Hopkins, Tom 'Buggy' Pritchard and all the way from Alice Springs, Windsor 'Duke' Royall. Their excuse for not winning was that there was no buggy for Tom, so tiredness set in!

Next to face the long first was the formidable team of Len 'Corrie' Fairclough, Gareth 'Perch' Phillips and last minute entrant Don 'Jock' Calnon - a trio of great potential. Bandits all!

The penultimate three consisted of Gareth 'Gaffer' Gwyther, Paul 'Porto' James and Tim 'Gavel' Davies - a trio capable of winning everything on their day, but this was not it.

The 13th and final trio out were Phil 'The spaceman' Mountjoy, Martin 'Arfur Daley' Davies and my 'old chum, John 'Sniffer' James. They were in fine form and scorched up the fairways.

After the competition and a superb meal, which was enjoyed by all, the formalities were entered into. Chippy welcomed all the players and thanked them for their support before handing over to Woody to make the presentations.

To conclude, Woody thanked the Inco set-up and the caterers for helping to make it a memorable day. He also stressed that whoever did win, the real winner was the game of golf, and he hoped that all who took part had an enjoyable day.

He also said that a day of golf had been arranged for July 14 at the Glyn Abbey Golf Club - details nearer the date.

I want to end by thanking each and everyone for their support, throughout the year, long may it continue, and here's to many more enjoyable society outings. B.J.A.
