The Big Gig in the Texaco Marquee at Folly Farm on Saturday, March 5, looks destined to be the show of the year for all Pembrokeshire music lovers. The doors will open at 5 pm with Circus Malarkey and Eugene French, with the live music starting at 6 pm. The quality and variety of locally made music on offer is stunning and a credit to the unique generosity of so many Pembrokeshire musicians - truly a showcase of the county's talent. Never before has a natural disaster spurred so many people to come together for the relief of suffering and, although the immediate danger has subsided, the rebuilding of lives, towns and cities will take many years. This event and the acoustic CD that was released last week, are designed to contribute to the long term efforts needed to combat the destruction and trauma left behind by the disaster. Musicians of all ages, bands and singers, electric and unplugged, are united for 'The Big Gig'. Suburban Soul, a big band of students from the south of the county, will impress any lover of Jools Holland style music. Female singers such as Nicci Miles, Lowri Evans and Jess Ward will perform their self-penned songs, as will bands such as Persona B, Legless, Johnny Action Finger and Clarity - guaranteed to get everyone on their feet to dance. Many local volunteers will staff the evening to help ensure that customers get full value and as much money as possible can go to the charities START and Tsunami Relief Cymru. Pictureworks, the leading company that helped make the Millennium Stadium gig so spectacular, have donated their services to increase the impact of the performances, and a host of other sponsors have also been generous with their offers of help. The sound system will be provided free by Winderton Studios, t-shirts from Tees 'R Us, tickets from Pierce Printers and of course the use of a unique luxury venue from the ever-supportive Texaco, Folly Farm and Dingle Marquees. The caterers and bar are also donating a good percentage of their profits. As a bonus, this unique event is due to be filmed by production company Boomerang for screening on S4C. Tickets for The Big Gig and Tsunami Relief CDs are available in every town at book sellers and music outlets, Pembrokeshire College shop and sub-post offices, with credit card payments via Span Arts hotline (01834) 869323. It would be a shame to miss out on six unique hours of Pembrokeshire's best live music, so make sure of your ticket by calling now.
