Local cricketers and supporters will turn out in force at Cresselly on Sunday, July 26, to watch Cresselly play Glamorgan and Gwent champions Miskin Manor in the quarter-final of the Npower Village Cup. Wickets will be pitched at 1 pm.
The umpires will be Steve Foley, of Bridgend, and Reg Shah, of Cardiff.
For the convenience of spectators, the clubhouse will be open throughout the match and there will be a barbeque on the field serving food.
Miskin Manor spokesman Keith Davies spoke to Observer Sport about the club and said: "Miskin play in the South Wales Thomas Carrol Division One league which is one division below the Premier League where St. Fagans, Cardiff and Newport play.
"Two years ago we were promoted to the Premier League, but were demoted after one season. This year we are struggling in Division One, partly because of the unavailability on a regular basis of some of our key players. We have some very promising youngsters and on Sunday against Cresselly we will have three players from our Under 15 team playing. We field three league teams on a Saturday, a Sunday XI and our Under 15, 13, 11 and 9 teams play in the Mid Glamorgan Junior League.
"We will travel down to Pembrokeshire in a 50-seater bus for players and supporters, which will be full, and a number of families will be travelling by car."
Giving details of Miskin's win over Aston Rowant, he added: "In the last round of the competition we had a nail-biting win by just two runs at home to Oxfordshire champions Aston Rowant.
"The visitors won the toss and asked Miskin to bat on a glorious summer's day. Garan Treharne and former Welsh rugby international fullback Justin Thomas put on 65 for the first wicket.
"The brisk start continued with further contributions from John Francis and our captain Huw Jones, with the third wicket going down for 145.
"Opener Garan Treharne top-scored with 73. Aston Rowant then pegged-back the run flow, with Tim Morgan being the pick of the bowling, taking 5-26 in six overs. The Miskin tail fell-away and we were bowled out for 196 in the last of the 40 overs.
"Cheered on by over 100 supporters who had made the trip from East Oxfordshire, Aston Rowant began to chase the target, with Alex Jewell (29) and Paul Plumridge (35) offering steady contributions. However, the run-rate began to creep-up due to the accurate bowling of Aled Jones 0-25 in nine overs, Nick Ashby 0-13 in five overs and Huw Jones who took 3-35 in eight overs.
"Chris Watling kept Aston Rowant hopes alive, eventually carrying his bat for 73 not out in an excellent knock.
"In a thrilling finish, Aston Rowant required 12 runs to win off the last over bowled by Miskin Manor's left arm spinner John Francis. They gallantly finished just two runs short on 194 for 8."
Concluding ,Mr Davies said: "We have heard a lot about Pembrokeshire cricket and we know that there is passionate interest in the game in the county.
"Over 20 years ago our youth team had a friendly fixture in Kilgetty and we are looking forward to playing at Cresselly.
"We have reached the quarter-final stages twice previously. In 1976 we played against Cookley (Worcestershire) and in 1997 against Shipton-under-Wychwood (Oxfordshire).
"It would be great to book a semi-final place this season!"
