The newly formed Kilgetty-Begelly Environment Group have organised their first event this weekend with a community litter pick on Sunday.

The event will focus on a big clean up of the villages and surrounding area.

Starting from 11 to 11.30 am from Kilgetty Community Centre, the litter pick is supported by Keep Wales Tidy who will provide all the necessary equipment.

This will be followed by a free community lunch for those taking part.

At 1 pm there will be the official launch of the Kilgetty and Begelly ‘Two Minute Street Clean’ initiative which is designed to encourage more people to help look after their environment and improve the overall cleanliness of the area.

Pembrokeshire County Council will also be supporting the event by demonstrating the recycling changes that are due to come into place shortly.

Their waste service advisers will be at the Kilgetty Community Centre from 11am to 4 pm showing residents what can be recycled and how to use the new system.

A ‘kerb side’ collection vehicle will also be there to demonstrate how the collection service will operate.

In the afternoon there will be the opportunity for everyone to have their say on local environmental issues and projects that they would like to support.

A recycle-art workshop is taking place in the hall with many ideas to use recycled materials in a creative manner.

Commenting County Councillor David Pugh said: “If you are interested and concerned about improving the environment that we live in and about other issues affecting our quality of life then please support this event.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity to make a difference now and for the future.

“I know the Cubs and Scouts are very much involved but I hope that all residents will help by coming along either to take part in the litter pick or simply dropping in to see how to improve their recycling.”
