When revellers are about to see in the New Year in Tenby's Tudor Square, this year they will be able to join in the countdown to midnight with the chimes of Big Ben. For Tenby Town Council has offered to donate funds towards the popular celebration venue of Tenby House Hotel whose proprietor Lesley Fisher has kindly agreed to house the loud speakers on the balcony in order to broadcast the chimes of Big Ben across the square on December 31. As usual, Tenby House Hotel will be putting on a spectacular fireworks display as crowds gather in the square to join in the festivities. And this week, the town's Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, praised the work the establishment does on the night for the townspeople. "Tenby House always puts on an excellent show on New Year's Eve and keeps everyone entertained, so I think a contribution towards funding the loud speakers would be a nice gesture from the council," she said at Tuesday night's meeting. "It's such an important night in Tenby that I think it would add to proceedings to hear the chimes of Big Ben and the countdown would also give the large crowd in Tudor Square something to focus on as well. "It would be worthwhile to work with them in also making sure that the night runs safely for everyone who gathers in the town," added Clr. Mrs. Lane. Councillors agreed to contribute £200 to Tenby House Hotel towards funds for the amplifiers that will broadcast Big Ben.
