Huge crowds enjoyed a spook-tacular fireworks display in Saundersfoot on Saturday evening as the village celebrated its best-ever Big Bang Weekend.
Combining the fun and festivities of Hallowe’en and bonfire night, the event also featured a funfair, trick or treat trail, disco, Spooky Bat trail and pumpkin competition.
The Big Bang was organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, whose vice-chairman, Michael Slade, said: “It was an absolutely brillliant weekend, and people came from far and wide. The village was buzzing, with all the businesses doing great trade - it was just like New Year’s Day.
“Everyone entered into the spirit of the occasion, and there were some fantastic fancy dress costumes from all ages - from babies to grandmas!”
Around 300 youngsters took part in the Trick or Treat trail around the village on Friday night, which was sponsored by the Chamber.
This was followed by a disco at the Regency Hall, organised by Saundersfoot Youth Club.
Youth club leader Sharon Rees was delighted with the huge attendance at the disco, which raised £900 for the club, and thanked all the businesses who supported the event on the night.
The Spooky Bat Trail attracted around 400 entries, with the winners being Seren Mayhew, Evie-Mae Johnson and Isaac Noyce. They each won a a Hallowe’en goody bag, complete with cuddly bat, which were sponsored by Cliff House B&B.
The pumpkin carving competition saw 100 creations being judged by Saundersfoot Community Council chairman, Sue Boughton-Thomas.
The overall winner, three-year-old Ruby Williams, won a family ticket for Manor Wildlife Park.
Results were: Under seven: 1. Olivia Grace Jones, aged four; 2. Billy Brunner, aged four. Seven-11: 1. Charlie Hughes, aged 11; 2. Sophie Leece-Gray, aged seven. Over 12: 1. Kaitlyn Williams, aged 12; 2. Rosie Wheeler, aged 13. Prizes were also sponsored by Little and Large Café and Phil Odley.
• Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism’s next big event in the village is the St. Nicholas Christmas Market on the seafront. Featuring live music, chef demonstrations and over 50 festive stalls, the market takes place on Friday December 2, Saturday December 3, and Sunday December 4.
