Saundersfoot's first-ever Big Bang Weekend has been hailed a huge success.

Crowds in their thousands lined every vantage point in the village on Saturday night to watch a spectacular fireworks display illuminate the harbour and beach.

The show was the conclusion to the weekend which featured a funfair, firebreathers and a visit from Fireman Sam and other children's favourites.

Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism organised the Big Bang Weekend with the aim of adding to its year-round calendar of activities and encouraging extra trade to the village.

"It proved to be a massive success," said Chamber chairman, Phil Odley. "There was a lot of local support, and plenty of visitors who gave a good boost to our accommodation providers.

"There was a marvellous atmosphere around the village all weekend, and there must have been around 5,000 people watching the fantastic fireworks display.

"It was a real feelgood family weekend, and it now looks set to be an annual event."
