VIKING Explorer Scouts Kevin Shanklin and Daniel Court are busy fund-raising in preparation for their visit to the Boy Scouts of America International Jamboree, which takes place in Richmond, Virginia, during July/August this year. They will be travelling as part of the UK contingent of 20. The Jamboree will involve approximately 134,000 young adults from all over America and the rest of the world, and will prove to be a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity for contingent members to participate in an international event, and will provide an opportunity to act as ambassadors for Wales. While there, the boys will spend some time doing community work in the Richmond area. Kevin and Daniel are pictured proudly showing a rugby ball signed by the Welsh rugby team. The ball is to be auctioned as part of a 'Bingo and Auction of Promises' evening to be held at The Picton Centre, Haverfordwest, on Saturday, March 19, at 7.30 pm. Among other lots to be auctioned will be an Irish Ferries voucher, tickets for the Grand Theatre, Swansea, and a day pass to Lamphey Court. Bingo prizes will include vouchers from local businesses. Kevin is a member of Pembroke School's Suburban Soul Band and will also be taking part in a further fund-raising event for the trip. Suburban Soul will be on stage at the RAOB Club, Kilgetty, on Saturday, April 16. Tickets are £6 and are available from Viking Explorer Scouts and members of Suburban Soul.
