Last Saturday, the town of Pembroke Dock saw the largest military parade in post war years. The parade was led by the Band of HM Welsh Guards and No 3 Company, 1st Bn Welsh Guards, a band from our twin town of Bergen in Lower Saxony in Germany, the Fanfarenzug Stadt Band, and members of the Schutzencorp (shooting club members) and 948 St. David's and Haverfordwest Squadron Band. The parade also consisted of representatives of the combined cadet forces locally and from South Wales, a detachment of soldiers from the Royal Corps of Signals from Cawdor Barracks at Brawdy, and standards representing ex-service organistations., The parade marshal was Clr. Dai Boswell. The parade marched through the town and was welcomed by heartily cheers from the towspeople. The salute was taken at Albion Square by HM Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, the Hon Robin Lewis OBE, the High Sheriff of Dyfed, Mrs. Elinor Jones, chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Tom Richards, vice-chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Wynne Evans, Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Clr. Pam George, and representatives from other communities, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Pembroke, Clr. Aaron and Natalie Carey, and the Burgermeister of Bergen, Mr. Rainer Prokop and Mrs. Marion Prokop. Representatives of the armed forces were also in attendance. In the afternoon, a shooting competition was held at the Modern Print Inclusive Target Club in Pennar, while on Saturday evening, a pig roast and disco was held at the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre where many renewed old friendships. On Sunday, a river cruise was held on the Milford Haven Waterway, sponsored by Mr. John Reynolds, of Dale Sailing, and the commentary was given by Captain Mark Andrews, corporate affairs director at Milford Haven Port Authority. On Sunday afternoon, the Fanfarenzug Stadt Band marched through the town of Pembroke, accompanied by members of the Schutzencorp, and marched into Pembroke Castle to perform a musical presentation for the visitors there. Chairman of the military events committee of the Pembroke Dock Bicentenary Group and chairman of the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Joint Twinning and Tourism Committee, Clr. Aden Brinn, stated the weekend was a great success and enjoyable and extends his grateful thanks to both townspeople of Pembroke Dock and Pembroke for supporting these events.
