Earlier this month members and friends of Bethel Chapel, Meyrick St. Pembroke Dock, gathered to celebrate the completion of the installation of a lift on the premises.
The lift was officially opened by Councillor Brian Hall on Friday, April 12.
Pastor Michael Bave commented that Clr. Hall had been a great help in the initial stages of planning.
Pastor Bave also thanked the members of Bethel Chapel who had donated half of the funds required; and also thanked the Welsh Government’s ‘Community Facilities Grants fund’, Pembrokeshire County Council’s ‘Handicap Accessibility Fund’, and The Trussel Trust who partner with Bethel’s Food bank program.
These organizations collectively, provided the other half of the required funds.
He also thanked Sharon Bevans, Tesco’s community co-ordinator, as Tesco generously promote collection of food for the foodbank.
The completion of the lift has helped enormously in allowing the disabled and elderly to access the café and foodbank upstairs, which is open each Thursday from 10 and 2 pm and has effectively united the services of Bethel’s downstairs Wednesday Restaurant from 11.45 am to 1.45 pm, and the downstairs Friday coffee mornings from 10 am to 12 pm.
Pastor Bave went on to thank Richard Rees and his team at Point Construction for the excellent quality of their work, and also for the help of Architect Meirion Thomas of Cardiff, and Structural engineer Roger Casey of Carmarthen and Haverfordwest.
