Pembroke looks set to be the latest location in the county to be the scene for a Hollywood film based on a best selling romantic book.
Shooting for the film based on Jojo Moyes' novel Me Before You is set to take place in the town during May.
The 2012 book has been adapted for the screen by The Fault In Our Stars screenwriters Michael H Weber and Scott Neustadter, and is set to star Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones fame and Sam Claflin of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and 2 in the lead roles.
Pembroke's Main Street is being eyed up as one of the key locations for the filming, with a spoksperson for Pembrokeshire County Council confirming that the authority had been in talks about a possible road closure with a film company, with proposed dates (yet to be confirmed) including May 14 to 15 and May 18 to 21.
A number of shop owners and businesses have been approached about using their premises for filming, while Pembroke Castle's manager Jon Williams said that he'd met with the producers, who were at an early stage of seeing if the castle was suitable as a location.
"If it does happen it could be a bit disruptive, but could also be excellent publicity for the area," he said.
At a meeting of Pembroke Town Council last week, the proposed filming was discussed.
"The town council were highly delighted to have a spotlight on the town of Pembroke, and hoped this would encourage future visits to our historic town," said town clerk Suzie Thomas, who informed councillors that she had spoken to the production company representative who was keen to stress that they wanted to work with the town's people and shopkeepers to avoid any disruption to their daily lives and businesses during the filming.
Pembroke county councillor Jonathan Nutting felt that most locals would welcome the thought that the town would be showcased in such away.
"The film company are very keen and want a good relationship with us," he said. "They have asked if we might consider some road closures in mid May if it becomes necessary.
"As long as the needs of the locals and the town businesses are looked after, then we cannot see a problem.
"Most see it as a win-win with money coming into the town and then film-goers seeing it at its best in the cinemas.
"Hopefully this will further boost tourism in Pembrokeshire. I have asked the county council to make sure the town looks its best and eyesores like the clock tower (which badly needs painting) are sorted out," continued Clr. Nutting, who joked that he was going to try and get a part as an extra in the film!
