The Pembrokeshire appeal for Tenby Lifeboat Station has attracted wonderful support, and more fund-raising functions are planned for the autumn. However, other events are also taking place locally to help the RNLI in general. One of these is the sponsored fun walk and run, organised by Pembroke Ladies' Lifeboat Guild. This very popular event, held annually, takes place across Castlemartin Range and along the cliff tops near St. Govan's Chapel. Once again it promises to be an occasion not to be missed. The walk provides the chance for people (and dogs) of all ages to enjoy a friendly four or eight mile stroll, admire the fantastic coastal scenery and raise money for a very worthwhile charity. The run, while more competitive, is also designed to reflect the convivial atmosphere of the day. The walk and run will be held on Sunday, September 19, and will begin at Newton Tower (on the B4319). This year will see two separate starts, walkers at 1 pm and runners at 2 pm, ensuring that more people will finish the course at the same time. Barbecued food will be served from 11 am and there will also be other refreshments, including teas with cakes and scones, soft drinks and ice-creams. RNLI souvenirs and T-shirts will be on sale. Last year it proved to be a very popular occasion for dogs, many of them sponsored, and owners will be pleased to learn that, as a courtesy to our canine supporters, the walk will not be started by a loud bang from a lifeboat maroon this year! It is hoped that more walkers than ever before will come along to put a best foot, and paw, forward for the RNLI. Everyone is assured of a warm welcome and sponsorship forms are now available to any individuals or groups who would like to take part. They can be easily obtained by 'phoning 01646 672168 or 01646 683900, or by calling in at the Ferry Inn, Pembroke Ferry. People who wish to just turn up on the day and make a donation may also join in the fun, but the more money raised, the more lives can be saved by the lifeboats!
