For the past dozen years or so, Benji Kirkpatrick was one of the stars of the mighty 11-piece folk band Bellowhead, sharing centre stage with Messrs Spiers and Boden as they conquered the musical world.

But now Bellowhead are no more and Benji is setting out on a new career as a solo performer - while still featuring in the ever-popular Faustus trio. Last year, Faustus performed a sell-out concert at Burnett’s Hill Chapel and Benji was so impressed by the Martletwy venue that was keen to return for a special solo concert this month, the day before he teams up with Fairport Convention as support act on the veteran band’s 50th anniversary tour.

Armed with guitar, bouzouki and various other stringed instruments, Benji will be performing traditional songs and tunes, powerful original material, and even a few acoustic arrangements of songs by his hero Jimi Hendrix.

The concert at Burnett’s Hill is on Wednesday, May 10, at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from Main Street Music in Pembroke or from 01646 651725.
